Precautions for the use of STST-C silicone tubing
Date: 2025-08-19Read: 34
  STHT-C silicone tubingIt is a polymer based pipeline mainly made of silicone rubber, which has been widely used in various fields such as medical, food, chemical, electronic, automotive, etc. due to its unique physical and chemical properties. It has excellent high and low temperature resistance and can be used for a long time in a wide temperature range of -60 ℃ to 250 ℃ without deformation or brittleness; Strong chemical stability, able to withstand the erosion of most acids, bases, organic solvents, and oxidants, and not easily react with the transport medium; Good biocompatibility, non-toxic and odorless, in compliance with international food and medical certification standards such as FDA and LFGB, and can directly contact human tissue or food.
  STHT-C silicone tubingPrecautions during use:
1. Temperature control
Avoid long-term use in environments beyond the rated temperature range: low temperatures may cause silicone tubing to harden and become brittle, while high temperatures may cause it to soften and accelerate aging (such as sticking and cracking);
Keep away from open flames or direct heat sources (although silicone is not flammable, high-temperature roasting can damage its molecular structure).
2. Pressure and flow rate
Control the conveying pressure to not exceed the maximum working pressure of the silicone tube to prevent expansion and bursting;
Avoid long-term erosion of the pipe wall by high-speed fluids (especially those containing particles) to prevent wear or local overheating.
3. Chemical compatibility
Contact with substances that are incompatible with silicone, such as certain oils (mineral oils may cause silicone to swell), concentrated nitric acid, hydrofluoric acid, and other highly corrosive chemicals, may result in swelling, hardening, cracking, and other issues upon contact;
When encountering new media, it is recommended to first conduct a small-scale compatibility test (such as soaking for 24 hours to observe changes).
4. Mechanical damage protection
Avoid scratching, squeezing, or twisting the silicone tube with sharp objects, especially at bends and folds, as long-term stress may cause local fatigue and rupture;
When connecting with metal interfaces, suitable clamps should be used to fix them to prevent leakage due to friction or looseness at the interface, and to prevent sharp edges of the interface from cutting the pipe wall.
5. Cleaning and Disinfection (Medical/Food Field)
Medical silicone tubing should be sterilized according to regulations (such as high-pressure steam sterilization, ethylene oxide sterilization), and disinfectants that may damage the silicone gel (such as certain chlorine containing disinfectants) should be avoided;
Food grade silicone tubing should be cleaned promptly after each use to remove residual media and prevent bacterial growth or media residue from causing aging.
