EDI is an abbreviation for "Electrodeionization", which means "Electrodeionization" or "Electrodialysis ion exchange" in Chinese. EDI ultrapure water machine is an advanced water treatment equipment that combines electrodialysis technology and ion exchange technology. Through the synergistic effect of electric field and ion exchange resin, it continuously prepares high-purity ultrapure water.
1、 Working principle
1. Ion migration: Under the action of a direct current electric field, cations (such as Na ⁺, Ca ² ⁺) in water move towards the cathode and pass through the cation exchange membrane; Anions (such as Cl ⁻, SO ₄² ⁻) move towards the anode and pass through the anion exchange membrane.
2. Resin regeneration: The ion exchange resin filled in the module is continuously polarized in an electric field, with the cation resin releasing H ⁺ and the anion resin releasing OH ⁻, achieving self regeneration of the resin without the need for shutdown and chemical cleaning.
3. Separation of pure water and concentrated water: The migrated ions are carried out of the system by the concentrated water, while the water in the intermediate compartment is continuously desalinated into ultrapure water.
2、 Advantages
1. No need for acid-base regeneration: EDI technology does not require the use of acid-base for chemical regeneration, reducing environmental pollution.
2. Continuous operation: EDI equipment can continuously produce water with stable water quality, and the electrical resistivity can generally reach 15M Ω· cm, with a maximum of 18M Ω· cm.
3. Low operating costs: EDI technology has lower operating costs and mainly consumes electricity.
4. Small footprint: EDI equipment has a compact structure and occupies a small area.
5. High water quality and high-quality produced water can meet the strict requirements of industries such as electronics, biology, and pharmaceuticals for ultrapure water.
3、 Comparison with traditional ion exchange technology
1. Regeneration method:
-Traditional ion exchange technology requires regular use of acid and alkali for chemical regeneration, which is complex to operate, costly, and environmentally polluting.
-EDI technology achieves self regeneration of resins through electric fields, without the need for chemical regeneration, which is environmentally friendly and cost-effective.
2. Operating efficiency:
-Traditional ion exchange technology requires regular shutdowns for regeneration, which affects production efficiency.
-EDI technology can operate continuously, with stable water quality and high operational efficiency.
3. Maintenance cost:
-Traditional ion exchange technology requires regular resin replacement and high maintenance costs.
-The resin of EDI technology has a long service life and low maintenance costs.
4. Floor Area:
-Traditional ion exchange technology equipment has a large volume and occupies a large area.
-EDI technology equipment has a compact structure and occupies a small area.
