What should be done for the cleaning and protection of refrigeration cycle units?
Date: 2025-09-30Read: 1

The cleaning and protection of refrigeration cycle units (used to provide a stable low-temperature environment, widely used in laboratory reaction temperature control, industrial equipment cooling, and other scenarios) revolves around "preventing blockage/corrosion of water systems, preventing dust accumulation in heat dissipation systems, preventing moisture in electrical systems, and preventing wear and tear of key components". It can not only avoid equipment failures (such as decreased refrigeration efficiency and compressor burnout), but also extend the service life. The following are the specific operating procedures and precautions:

1、 Core Cleaning 1: Waterway System Cleaning - Avoiding Blockage, Corrosion, and Ensuring Refrigeration Efficiency
The waterway system (including water tank, circulation pipeline, water pump, and filter) is the "blood channel" of the refrigeration cycle. If there is residual scale, impurities, or microorganisms, it can cause pipeline blockage, water pump wear, and even corrosion of the equipment wall. Regular deep cleaning is required:
1. Daily simple cleaning (once a week, for water tanks and filters)
Water tank cleaning:
Turn off the device power and drain the circulating fluid from the water tank (if it is antifreeze, it needs to be collected and recycled to avoid waste and pollution);
Dip a soft cloth into a "neutral cleaner" (such as detergent diluent to prevent acidic/alkaline cleaners from corroding the inner wall of the water tank), wipe the inner wall of the water tank, and focus on cleaning residual scale and stains (if there is stubborn scale, soak it in warm water for 10 minutes before wiping);
Rinse the water tank repeatedly with clean water 2-3 times to ensure that any residue of the cleaning agent is completely removed;
Re add the circulating fluid that meets the requirements (it is recommended to use "deionized water" or specialized antifreeze to avoid the formation of scale caused by calcium and magnesium ions in tap water), and the liquid level should be between the "lowest highest liquid level line" (below the lowest liquid level will cause the water pump to run idle, and above the highest liquid level it is easy to overflow).
Filter cleaning:
Find the "water inlet filter" of the waterway system (usually a transparent plastic shell with a built-in filter screen), unscrew the filter housing;
Remove the filter screen and rinse the impurities (such as dust and fibers) on the surface of the filter screen with clean water. If the filter screen is severely clogged, soak it in a neutral cleaner for 10 minutes and then scrub it;
After drying the filter screen, reinstall it to ensure good sealing of the housing (to avoid water leakage or unstable circulating pressure caused by air intake).
2. Deep cleaning (once every 3-6 months, for circulation pipelines and water pumps)
Pipeline flushing:
Turn off the device, drain the circulating liquid from the water tank, connect the "dedicated cleaning pipeline" (or use the flushing interface provided by the device), and inject "waterway specific cleaning agent" (such as citric acid cleaning agent, with a concentration configured according to the instructions, which can remove scale and microorganisms);
Turn on the device and let the cleaning agent circulate in the water system for 30-60 minutes (during the circulation process, the water temperature can be appropriately increased to 40 ℃ to enhance the cleaning effect);
Drain the cleaning agent and repeatedly rinse the pipeline with clean water 2-3 times until the discharged water is clear (the pH value of the water can be detected to ensure consistency with tap water and no residual cleaning agent);
Add new circulating fluid and run the equipment for 10 minutes to confirm that the water circulation is normal and there are no leaks.
Pump maintenance:
If the equipment shows an increase in water pump noise and a decrease in circulating flow rate, the water pump should be disassembled (according to the instructions) and the impeller should be checked for impurities (such as fibers and scale);
Clean the surface of the impeller with a soft bristled brush. If the impeller is severely worn (such as blade deformation or cracking), it is necessary to replace it with the same model of impeller in a timely manner (to avoid exacerbating water pump vibration due to impeller imbalance);
When reinstalling the water pump, ensure that the sealing gasket is intact (if the sealing gasket is aging, it needs to be replaced synchronously) to avoid water leakage.
2、 Core Cleaning 2: Cooling System Cleaning - Avoid Dust Accumulation and Prevent Cooling Efficiency Decrease
If the cooling system of the refrigeration cycle (including the condenser, cooling fan, and cooling fins) accumulates dust, it will cause the heat to be unable to dissipate properly, and the compressor will need to operate at overload, which not only reduces the cooling efficiency but may also burn out the compressor. Regular cleaning is required:
1. Clean the surface of the cooling fan and condenser (once every 2 weeks)
Power off operation: The device must be powered off and unplugged to avoid the risk of electric shock;
External dust removal: Use a "compressed air gun" (pressure adjusted to 0.3-0.5MPa) to blow air from the "outer side of the heat dissipation hole to the inner side" to remove floating dust on the surface of the fan blades and condenser (avoid blowing from the inner side to the outer side, which may cause dust to enter the interior of the equipment); If there is no compressed air gun, a soft bristled brush can be used to gently brush the fan blades and heat dissipation holes (move gently to avoid damaging the fan blades);
Stubborn stain treatment: If there is oil stains on the surface of the condenser (such as oil fumes in industrial environments), you can dip a small amount of neutral cleaning agent into a soft cloth and gently wipe the condenser heat sink (note: the heat sink material is thin, avoid excessive force causing deformation and affecting heat dissipation).
2. Deep cleaning of heat sinks (once every 6 months)
If there is severe dust accumulation in the gap between the heat sinks (visible dust blockage when illuminated with a flashlight), the heat sink panel on the side of the device needs to be disassembled (according to the instructions), and a "special heat sink cleaning brush" (with slender bristles that can penetrate deep into the gap) should be used to clean the dust in the gap;
After cleaning, reinstall the heat dissipation panel to ensure good sealing (to prevent dust from entering through gaps, while ensuring smooth heat dissipation ducts).
3、 Core Protection 1: Electrical System Protection - Moisture and Short Circuit Protection to Ensure Safe Operation
If the electrical system (including control panel, terminal block, compressor junction box) is damp or dusty, it is easy to cause short circuit and poor contact, and special protection is needed:
1. Control panel protection (daily operation)
Avoid touching the control panel buttons or display screen with wet hands. If there are stains on the surface of the panel, wipe it with a dry soft cloth (do not use alcohol or corrosive cleaning agents to avoid damaging the display screen coating);
If the equipment is used in a humid environment (such as near a laboratory sink), a "waterproof protective cover" should be installed on the outside of the control panel (to meet the size of the equipment and avoid affecting operation);
Regularly check the wiring terminals on the back of the control panel (open the panel according to the instructions) to see if there is any looseness or oxidation (the terminal surface turns black). If there is oxidation, gently polish the terminal surface with fine sandpaper and tighten the wiring again (to avoid poor contact causing equipment errors).
2. Compressor and electrical box protection (once every 3 months)
Open the electrical box door at the bottom or side of the device, check if the internal wiring is loose or dusty, and use a dry soft cloth or compressed air gun (low voltage) to clean the dust inside the box (do not use water or cleaning agents to avoid moisture on electrical components);
Check if the wiring inside the compressor junction box is secure and if the sealing ring is intact (if the sealing ring is aging, it needs to be replaced to prevent moisture from entering the interior of the compressor);
If the equipment is not used for a long time (more than 1 month), it needs to be powered on and run for 30 minutes every month (to start the compressor, avoid internal lubricating oil solidification, and dry the moisture in the electrical system).
