Analysis of functional differences and process synergy between ceramic rubber extrusion furnace and sintering furnace
Date: 2025-04-25Read: 0
In advanced ceramic manufacturing, ceramic extrusion furnace and sintering furnace serve as core heat treatment equipment, respectively undertaking the key tasks of "rejection" and "densification". There are essential differences between the two in terms of process objectives, temperature control, atmosphere environment, and equipment structure, but precise control of ceramic properties can be achieved through collaborative application.
  1、 Core functional differences
The core mission of ceramic extrusion furnace is to remove organic matter from the green body. Taking alumina ceramics as an example, the polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) binder added during molding needs to be discharged in stages below 400 ℃, otherwise residual carbides will cause cracking of the sintered body. The equipment adopts a gradient heating curve (such as holding at 300 ℃ for 1 hour → holding at 550 ℃ for 2 hours), combined with a forced ventilation system (wind speed ≥ 2m/s), to ensure that organic matter evaporates without causing deformation of the billet.
The sintering furnace focuses on the densification of ceramic particles. At high temperatures ranging from 1300 ℃ to 1600 ℃, alumina particles undergo grain boundary migration through surface diffusion mechanism, resulting in a decrease in porosity from 30% to below 5%. Its core parameters include heating rate (3 ℃/min~5 ℃/min), holding time (2 hours~4 hours), and cooling system (furnace cooling or program controlled cooling), which directly affect the microstructure and mechanical properties of ceramics.
2、 Equipment structure and process adaptation
The ceramic rubber discharge furnace adopts a large space design, with a furnace volume of up to 1m3, equipped with an independent exhaust gas treatment system (such as catalytic combustion device) to meet the ventilation requirements for organic matter removal. The temperature uniformity requirement is relatively low (± 5 ℃), but it needs to have explosion-proof function to cope with the violent decomposition of organic matter.
Sintering furnaces emphasize the ability to control the atmosphere. Vacuum can prevent abnormal growth of alumina grains, while atmosphere can suppress carbide decomposition. Some advanced equipment integrates hot pressing function, applying a pressure of 20MPa~50MPa during the sintering process to increase the bending strength of alumina ceramics from 300MPa to 500MPa.
3、 Process collaboration and production optimization
In the production of multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCC), the two form a three-stage process chain of "gluing pre firing sintering". A certain enterprise has shortened the dispensing time from 8 hours to 6 hours and reduced the sintering temperature from 1550 ℃ to 1500 ℃ by optimizing process parameters, resulting in an increase in product qualification rate from 85% to 92%. In the production of silicon nitride ceramic bearing balls, an integrated equipment for rubber extrusion and sintering is used to compress the production cycle from 72 hours to 48 hours, reducing energy consumption by 15%.

  4、 Technological Evolution Trends
With the improvement of material performance requirements, the technical boundary between the two is gradually blurring. The new microwave ceramic glue removal furnace can achieve organic matter removal within 20 minutes, reducing energy consumption by 60%; The induction heating sintering furnace increases the heating rate to 20 ℃/min, and the grain size control accuracy reaches ± 0.5 μ m. The intelligent control system can monitor the composition of exhaust gas in real time and automatically adjust the parameters of the rubber discharge process.
From "exclusion" to "densification", ceramic extrusion furnaces and sintering furnaces play a bridging role in ceramic manufacturing. By accurately matching material characteristics and process requirements, the synergistic effect of the two can significantly improve the performance and production efficiency of ceramic products, promoting the development of advanced ceramic industry towards higher precision and lower energy consumption.
