How to ensure the performance of instruments that are shut down and reused during the Mid Autumn Festival and National Day holiday?

Your valuable analytical instrument may need to be turned off during the long holiday. Whether you are using Hitachi's desktop analyzer or handheld analyzer, we will provide guidance to improve operational efficiency when you turn it on again, ensuring optimal performance of the instrument.

01 Handheld analyzer (XRF/LIBS)


We do not want any abnormal performance of the handheld analyzer, whether it has been used for three days or three months. However, before putting it back into use, it is best to check the analyzer:
After removing the instrument from the box, charge the battery. Charge the empty X-MET8000 or Vulcan battery for 5-6 hours.
  1. If cleaning the exterior of the device, please use a weak detergent. Strong solvents should be avoided.
  2. Check the instrument:
    1) If the test window film is damaged or dirty, please replace the X-MET8000 window film with a clean and intact one.
    2) Clean the Vulcan test window film with a cotton swab according to the provided operating instructions.
  3. Measure the provided inspection samples to verify that the instrument is in good working condition.
  4. If possible, compare the results with those before stopping the operation. Then prepare yourself.

We also recommend that you use safety protection devices (such as masks, gloves, disinfectants, etc.) during the operation of the instrument according to your unit's regulations.

02 Desktop analyzer (XRF/OES/TA)

General description, suitable for use in warm climates and uninterruptible power supply (UPS)

  1. The room where the instrument is installed needs to be ventilated for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Clean the entire laboratory area around the instrument.
  3. If cleaning the exterior of the device, please use a weak detergent. Strong solvents should be avoided.
  4. Turn on the air conditioning for 5-10 minutes and also turn on the indoor ventilation equipment.
  5. Before starting the UPS (uninterruptible power supply), turn off the indoor ventilation equipment and turn on the air conditioning for 30 minutes or more to maintain the indoor temperature between 20 ℃ and 25 ℃.
  6. Start the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and wait for a few minutes.
  7. To use XRF, follow the relevant operating instructions in Part 2, and to use OES, follow the relevant operating instructions in Part 3.

Start the desktop XRF analyzer
  1. Start the instrument now and let it idle for at least two hours. If your unit has an electrical department, you should check the main power supply before powering on the system.

  2. Measure randomly attached SUS fixed samples or any solid samples of the customer 10 times or more to allow the instrument to preheat faster. Please also refer to the manual to start the XRF instrument.

  3. For coating analyzers, perform calibration (spectral/reference measurements); For LAB-X and X-Supreme8000, measure QC inspection samples to ensure proper instrument operation.

  4. Check the calibration foil/certified samples and verify the results.

  5. If you find that the results are within the tolerance limit, start sample testing.

  6. For LAB-X and X-Supreme8000, check the helium connector (if using helium), that is, the pipeline has been connected and the regulator is set normally.

Start OES direct reading spectrometer
Ensure that the instrument is connected to the gas source and all valves are open.
  1. Start the instrument now and let it idle for at least an hour or longer. If your unit has an electrical department, you should check the main power supply before powering on the system.
  2. Preheat the instrument and sustain 20 spark excitations. Please also refer to the manual to start the OES instrument.
  3. Implement standardization.
  4. Check the calibration foil/certified samples and verify the results.
  5. If you find that the results are within the tolerance limit, start sample testing. If the result exceeds the tolerance limit, please contact us.

Launch EA series RoHS screening XRF analyzer
  1. The instrument should be used under appropriate environmental requirements (voltage, temperature, humidity, noise, etc.).
  2. If working gas or cooling liquid is required, the switch of the hazardous working gas or liquid terminal should be turned off before turning on the instrument.
  3. If the instrument is not turned on for a long time, its X-ray tube will have a preheating time of about 30 minutes. It should be operated patiently according to the prompt interface of the working software.
  4. Before officially using the equipment, please calibrate it according to the prompts. If the device has an alarm or error prompt, you can use one click to export the system environment file and send it to the service personnel for inspection.
  5. In the analysis batch of unknown samples, standard substances can be added for IQC control to check whether the instrument accuracy meets the requirements.

Start TA thermal analyzer
  1. The instrument should be used under appropriate environmental requirements (voltage, temperature, humidity, noise, etc.).
  2. If working gas or cooling liquid is required, the switch of the hazardous working gas or liquid terminal should be turned off before turning on the instrument.
  3. If using electronic cooling equipment for cooling, it is recommended to turn on the computer and instrument, wait for the connection to be completed, and finally turn on the electronic cooling equipment.
  4. If the instrument is not turned on for a long time, there may be residual moisture in the air inside the instrument, and a certain degree of air burning can be carried out within a reasonable range.
  5. Before officially using the equipment, standard substances can be used to check whether the equipment performance is in the best testing state. If the deviation of relevant indicators is too large, it is recommended to adjust the calibration file. For specific related operations, please refer to the user manual.
