Daily maintenance, calibration, and common troubleshooting strategies for oxygen sensors
Date: 2025-09-23Read: 1
1、 Key points of daily maintenance
Dustproof and Moistureproof
Regularly clean the dust on the surface of the sensor to avoid clogging the ventilation holes. When used in a humid environment for a long time, it is necessary to check the sealing to prevent moisture from entering and causing circuit short circuits or damage to ceramic components.
Avoid mechanical damage
The ceramic core of the sensor is hard and brittle, and it is forbidden to strike it with hard objects or blow it with strong airflow. During installation, handle with care to prevent collision from causing ceramic breakage or internal circuit disconnection.
Standardize operating habits
Avoid pulling the sensor wires to prevent loose or broken connections.
Do not immediately flush the exhaust pipe after the engine is turned off to prevent ceramic components from exploding due to rapid cooling.
Use high-quality fuel and lubricants to reduce carbon deposits and the deposition of pollutants such as lead and silicon.
2、 Calibration method and cycle
Calibration steps
Two point calibration: Use standard oxygen concentration (such as 21% O ₂ in air and zero point gas) for calibration.
Connect the sensor to the data collector and computer, and open calibration software (such as LoggerPro or GraphicalAnalysis).
Enter the standard value (reading 1:21; reading 2:0) and save the calibration result to the sensor.
Environmental requirements: Ensure indoor air circulation and place the sensor vertically during calibration.
calibration cycle
Conventional scenario: Calibrate every 6 months or adjust according to usage frequency.
High precision requirements: For laboratory or industrial monitoring, it is recommended to calibrate every 3 months.
3、 Common troubleshooting
Abnormal output signal
Fault phenomenon: Fixed voltage value or abnormal fluctuation range (normally should vary between 0.1-1V).
Troubleshooting steps:
Check the appearance color of the sensor: light gray is normal; White (silicon pollution) and brown (lead pollution) need to be replaced; Black (carbon deposits) can be cleaned.
Use a multimeter to measure the feedback voltage. If the fluctuation is less than 8 times within 10 seconds, it may be due to carbon deposition or damage and needs to be cleaned or replaced.
Sensor poisoning
Lead poisoning: caused by the use of leaded gasoline. Mild poisoning can be restored by switching to unleaded gasoline, but severe poisoning requires replacement.
Silicon poisoning: caused by silicone rubber gaskets or lubricating oil containing silicon, the sensor must be replaced.
Heater malfunction
Phenomenon: The sensor cannot reach the working temperature (such as the resistance wire of the heated oxygen sensor burning out).
Troubleshooting: Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the heater (normal value 4-40 Ω). If it is abnormal, replace the sensor.
