What are the basic components of gas chromatography equipment?
Date: 2021-08-06Read: 30
The basic equipment of a gas chromatograph includes five parts:

Gas path system, sampling system, separation system, detection system, temperature control system, recording system.

pneumatic system

Including gas source, purifier, and carrier gas flow rate control; Common carrier gases include hydrogen, nitrogen, and helium.

Injection system

Including injection device and gasification chamber.

Gas injector (six way valve): The sample is first filled into the quantitative tube, and after being cut in, the carrier gas carries the sample gas in the quantitative tube into the separation column; Liquid sampler: Micro injectors of different specifications, commonly used for packed column chromatography with 10 μ L; Capillary chromatography commonly uses 1 μ L; The new instrument is equipped with a fully automatic liquid sampler, which automatically completes processes such as cleaning, rinsing, sampling, injection, and sample replacement. It can hold dozens of samples at once.

Injection method

Split injection: The sample is vaporized in the vaporization chamber, and most of the vapor is released through the split pipeline, with only a very small portion being introduced into the chromatographic column by the carrier gas;

Non split injection: The sample is directly injected into the vaporization chamber of the chromatography, and after volatilization, it is all introduced into the chromatography column.

Separation system

Chromatography column: packed column (2-6 mm diameter, 1-5 m long), capillary column (0.1-0.5 mm diameter, several tens of meters long).

The function of temperature control system

Temperature is an important parameter for selecting chromatographic separation conditions, and the gasification chamber, chromatographic column constant temperature box, and detector all need to control the temperature during chromatographic operation.

Gasification chamber: Ensure instantaneous gasification of liquid samples;

Detector: Ensure that the separated components do not condense here when passing through;

Chromatographic Column Thermostat: Accurately control the temperature required for separation.

detection system

Function: Convert the amount of each component separated by chromatography into measurable electrical signals.

Indicators: sensitivity, linear range, response speed, structure, universality.

Universal type - responsive to all substances;

Exclusive type - highly sensitive to specific substances.

Detector types: concentration detector, thermal conductivity detector, electron capture detector, mass detector, hydrogen flame ionization detector, flame photometric detector.
