The use of steady-state solar simulator is obvious at a glance
Date: 2025-10-24Read: 1
Steady state solar simulators typically use high-power xenon lamps or LEDs as light sources. Xenon lamps are widely popular due to their spectral characteristics that are close to natural sunlight; LED is gradually being widely used due to its high efficiency, energy saving, and long lifespan. Both of these light sources can provide a foundation for subsequent optical processing. To ensure that the light emitted by the simulator is similar to sunlight, filters or mirrors are added to the optical path to adjust the spectral distribution. These filters can accurately control the intensity of light at different wavelengths, thereby simulating the spectral characteristics of standard sunlight such as AM0 and AM1.5G. In this way, it is possible to enhance or weaken specific wavelength bands of light to achieve a more realistic simulation effect. Using a lens system to focus the processed approximate solar spectrum onto the tested sample. Meanwhile, the reflection system is also used to increase the utilization and uniformity of light. For example, a short arc xenon lamp combined with an elliptical reflector focusing design can improve light utilization efficiency by over 90%, ensuring sufficient and uniform light intensity distribution. For the use of xenon lamps, it is necessary to use a filtration system to block the generation of ozone and adopt closed-loop water cooling to prevent thermal drift from affecting output stability. These measures help to maintain the long-term stable operation of the light source, thereby ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the test results.

Precautions for using a steady-state solar simulator:
1. Personal safety protection
-Wear protective equipment: Ensure to wear appropriate personal protective equipment such as safety goggles and heat-resistant gloves before operation.
-Check the integrity of the equipment: Check for visible damage to the equipment, such as exposed wires or broken lampshades, and ensure that there are no flammable materials in the work area.
2. Environmental control
-Temperature management: The ambient temperature should be controlled within the range of 25 ℃± 5 ℃. Excessive or insufficient temperature may cause changes in the performance of internal components of the simulator, affecting the stability of simulated light. Meanwhile, the impact of light source heating on component temperature can be offset by an active cooling system.
-Avoid interference factors: The installation location of the equipment should be away from heat sources, flammable and explosive materials, and maintain good ventilation; Avoid exposing vulnerable objects or plants to ultraviolet radiation to prevent catalytic reactions.
3. Electrical safety and performance guarantee
-Stable power supply: Before starting the simulator, be sure to check its power supply system. Ensure that the input voltage is stable at the rated voltage value specified by the device, with a deviation not exceeding ± 1, to prevent damage to the simulator caused by voltage fluctuations.
-Regular calibration and testing: Accurately calibrate the spectral distribution of the simulator according to relevant standards to ensure that the deviation between its spectrum and the standard solar spectrum is within the allowable range; Strictly follow the equipment manual requirements and regularly test the uniformity of the simulator's light intensity; Regularly test the electrical insulation performance of the simulator, and according to relevant electrical safety standards, the insulation resistance should not be lower than the specified value.
4. Light source management
-Timely replacement of light bulbs: For light source components such as light bulbs in simulators, they should be replaced in a timely manner according to the duration of use. Usually, when the accumulated lighting time of the light bulb reaches a certain number of hours, replacement should be considered to ensure the stability of light intensity and spectral characteristics.
-Cleaning optical lenses: During use, it is necessary to regularly clean the optical lenses of the simulator. Dust and other impurities on the surface of the lens can reduce the transmittance of light. According to operating procedures, clean it at least once a week to maintain good optical performance.
5. Operating standards
-Reduce the number of times the box door is opened: Do not open the box door frequently unless necessary to avoid temperature and humidity fluctuations affecting the test results.
-Minimize contact resistance: Ensure good contact between the sample electrode and the fixture to reduce the impact of contact resistance on the test results.
