Guide for step-by-step cleaning of copper mesh blockage in paper laboratory beating degree tester
Date: 2025-09-23Read: 1

The copper mesh of the beating degree tester (Schober type beating degree tester) is its core precision component, and once blocked, it will directly affect the measurement accuracy. When cleaning, the principle of "from easy to difficult, from physical to chemical" should be followed to protect the copper mesh from damage.

Step 1: Physical Cleaning

This is a common method for daily maintenance. Firstly, carefully remove the copper mesh from the instrument. Then, use low-pressure water flow to backwash from the back (i.e. smooth surface) of the copper mesh. The force of water flow can push out the small fibers and filler particles embedded in the mesh in the opposite direction. At the same time, a very soft small brush (such as an old toothbrush) can be gently brushed on the front (rough surface) of the net to assist in loosening dirt. The entire process must be done gently to avoid deformation or damage to the mesh.

Step 2: Gentle chemical cleaning (for general dirt)

If there are still residues after physical cleaning, mild chemical soaking can be performed. Prepare a warm neutral or weakly alkaline detergent solution (such as diluted dishwashing detergent) and soak the copper mesh in it15-30Minute, let the detergent decompose oil and organic impurities. Afterwards, remove the copper mesh and rinse it back again to ensure there are no detergent residues.

Step 3: Targeted acid washing (removing inorganic blockages)

If the blockage is mainly caused by fillers such as calcium carbonate and kaolin, and the physical and mild cleaning effect is not good, acid washing can be considered. Use low concentrations (such as3-5%)Soak in a weak acid solution, such as citric acid or acetic acid, for a few minutes. Acidic environment can effectively dissolve inorganic salts. The key point is that the soaking time must be extremely short, and immediately rinse with plenty of water after completion to stop the acid corrosion reaction and prevent the copper mesh from being corroded.

Step 4: Strong alkali cleaning (final method, use with caution!)

For extremely stubborn organic dirt, caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) should be considered for use. Low concentration must be used(1-3%)The soaking time of the cold solution is strictly controlled within10Within minutes and closely monitor the entire process. Rinse immediately after completion. Strong alkali still poses a corrosion risk to copper mesh, and improper operation can easily lead to its scrapping. Therefore, unless absolutely necessary, try to avoid using it.

Summary: The standard cleaning process should beReverse flushing → neutral detergent soaking → weak acid soaking if necessary. After each cleaning, check the transparency and cleanliness of the mesh surface with light. Proper cleaning and maintenance are key to ensuring accurate and reliable measurement data of beating degree.
