The decisive role of the blade state of the Wally Beater in the beating effect
Date: 2025-09-27Read: 1

The Wally Beater is a key equipment used in pulp and paper laboratories to simulate the pulp beating process in industrial production. The core working principle is to cut, crush, and separate fibers through the mechanical action between the flying blade roller and the bottom blade. Therefore, the intact condition of the cutting head is a prerequisite for obtaining accurate and repeatable beating effects. Once the blade is worn, chipped, or damaged, it will have a significant negative impact on the quality of the slurry.

Firstly, the beating process is out of control and uneven. The damaged blade cannot form a uniform gap and stable shear force with the bottom blade. Sharp edges can cause excessive cutting of fibers, while wear or gaps result in insufficient beating effect. This results in significant differences in the degree of treatment of fibers in the same batch of slurry, making it impossible to form a uniform slurry, which seriously affects the accuracy and reproducibility of the experiment.

Secondly, it seriously affects the physical strength of the paper. The core purpose of pulping is to optimize the fiber bonding ability. The ideal beating should moderately retain the fiber length while fully separating it into fibers. Damage to the blade can disrupt this balance: excessive cutting directly reduces the average fiber length, weakening the tear and tear resistance of the paper; Insufficient pulverization can affect the hydrogen bonding between fibers, leading to a decrease in tensile strength and flexural strength. The final experimental paper strength index will deviate significantly from the true level and lose its value in guiding production.

Furthermore, the energy consumption and efficiency of pulping are abnormal.Damaged blade heads can increase unnecessary mechanical friction resistance, leading to abnormally high energy consumption in pulping. At the same time, the time required to achieve the target beating degree may be significantly extended or shortened, but this is not the result of effective beating, but rather a manifestation of energy waste on mechanical damage and ineffective friction.

In summary, slight damage to the blade of the Wally Beater will affect the scientific basis of the entire beating experiment. It can lead to uneven pulp quality, damage to fiber structure, distortion of paper strength indicators, and abnormal energy consumption data. Therefore, the laboratory must establish a strict system for regular inspection, maintenance, and replacement of cutting heads to ensure the accuracy and reliability of experimental data, thereby providing effective theoretical basis for practical production.
