Conductivity electrodes are key sensors for water quality analysis, and their measurement accuracy and lifespan directly depend on standardized operation and scientific maintenance. Mastering the following key points can ensure accurate data and prolong the service life of electrodes.
1、 Key points for standardized use
Calibration operation
Calibration using standard solutions, commonly used standard solutions are 84 μ S/cm, 1413 μ S/cm, and 12.88mS/cm. Ensure that the electrode is thoroughly stirred in the standard solution during calibration to eliminate bubble interference. The new electrode needs to be activated for 30 minutes and soaked in distilled water for 24 hours before the first use.
Measurement precautions
Keep the electrode constant consistent with the instrument settings; Ensure that the solution completely submerges the electrode measurement area; Avoid measuring at harsh temperatures and wait for the temperature to stabilize; High purity water samples need to be collected in a closed circulation pool to prevent the dissolution of CO ₂ in the air
2、 Daily maintenance methods
Cleaning and maintenance
Rinse with distilled water for routine pollution and wipe dry with a soft cloth; Organic pollution: Soak in 5% dilute hydrochloric acid for 5-10 minutes; Use mild detergent solution to clean oil pollution; Protein contamination is treated with gastric protease solution.
Storage requirements
Short term storage: Soak in distilled water; Long term storage: Store in the original box after drying; The electrode with temperature probe needs to be vertically suspended and stored.
3、 Common fault handling
Unstable reading: Check whether the electrode is contaminated and whether the solution is uniform;
Calibration failed: Verify the validity period of the standard solution and check if the electrode is aging;
Delayed response: Possible electrode aging or contamination, requiring cleaning or replacement
The electrode lifespan is usually 1-2 years, and regular performance evaluation is crucial. Correct usage habits combined with scientific maintenance plans can ensure that the conductivity electrode always maintains excellent working condition, providing reliable guarantee for water quality monitoring.
