What is image clarity?Image clarity refers to the degree of clarity and distortion of image contours. Clarity detectors are widely used in industries such as optical films, plastic films, LCD displays, barcodes, etc.
The measurement principle of image clarity:



The image clarity is calculated through the values of M and m, where M is the high reflectance (fully unobstructed) and m is the low reflectance (fully occluded). The ratio of (M-m)/(M+m) * 100 is calculated in the instrument processor and displayed on the screen.
As shown in the figure below: The surface of the sample is smooth and polished, with low roughness. Even the smallest stripes can be reflected after the reflective light mask, proving that this sample has high clarity. When measuring with instruments, as shown in the reflection principle in the figure above, the slit of the photomask blocks and transmits the reflected light of the sample. When the surface roughness of the sample changes, the reflected light will also change, resulting in changes in M and m values.

Image clarity, also known as image clarity or contour clarity, is not positively correlated with haze (reflection haze and transmission haze, also known as turbidity) due to algorithmic reasons. Please refer to the values in the following figure.
The haze describes a coarse range, but the clarity meter is much finer.

2. Differences in human eyes. In the past, the judgment of clarity was based on the observation results of the human eye, but there were differences in the observation results of each person's eyes,Simple example: Different people have different levels of clarity when viewing the same sample, and a clarity meter can eliminate observation errors caused by human eye errors.
3. Environmental differences. The lighting during each time period of the day is different, for exampleAt noon/evening or on sunny/cloudy days, the clarity of the same sample varies. The clarity meter establishes a standard measurement environment to eliminate measurement errors caused by the environment.
4. Time difference. With the passage of time and the occurrence of phenomena such as aging and corrosion, the clarity of the samples will change over time. Even for the same batch of samples, the observed results will also change over time, and a clarity meter is needed to express these differences in the form of data.
