Ultrasonic comparison test block non-destructive testing test block

1、 Firstly, the sensitivity of the detection needs to be determined before testing, and the method of determination should generally use a reference block.

According to the NB 47013.10 diffraction time difference ultrasonic testing standard requirements:

When using the reflector on the reference block to set sensitivity, it is necessary to set the amplitude of the weaker diffraction signal to 40% -80% of the full screen height, and perform surface coupling compensation when scanning the surface of the inspected workpiece.

When the thickness of the inspected workpiece is not greater than 50mm and single channel detection is used, the sensitivity can also be directly set on the inspected workpiece. Generally, the amplitude of the through wave is set to 40% -80% of the full screen height.

3. Of course, comparative test blocks can also be used for calibration. For test blocks with a wall thickness of 12mm ≤ t ≤ 25mm, at least 3 reflectors should be set up, including a rectangular groove on the surface of the test block, a 2mm side hole 4mm below the scanning surface, and a 1/2t sharp groove or side hole. (Specific requirements refer to the standard)

If sensitivity calibration is performed using a reference block, weaker defect signals on the reference block need to be adjusted to between 40% and 80%.

TOFD (Time of Flight Diffraction) technology is a detection technique based on diffraction signals, namely diffraction time difference ultrasonic detection technology. in general.

2、 TOFD technology has many advantages:

1. Good reliability, as it utilizes the diffraction signal of waves and is not affected by the angle of the sound beam, the detection rate of defects is relatively high.
2. High quantitative accuracy.
3. The detection process is convenient and fast. Generally, one person can complete TOFD testing, and the probe only needs to be moved along both sides of the weld seam.
4. Having clear and reliable TOFD scanning images, TOFD scanning images are more conducive to defect identification and analysis compared to A-type scanning signals.
5. TOFD detection uses high-performance digital instruments with strong signal recording ability, which can record scanning signals throughout the process, and the scanning records can be stored and processed for a long time.
6. In addition to being used for detection, it can also be used for monitoring defect changes, especially with high measurement accuracy for crack height propagation.
However, TOFD technology also has its own limitations:
1. The reliability of near surface defect detection is insufficient. The upper surface defect signal may be buried under the direct wave and missed, while the lower surface defect may be missed due to being masked by the bottom reflection wave signal.
2. It is difficult to determine the nature of defects.
3. The recognition and interpretation of TOFD images are difficult and require extensive experience.
4. It is not easy to detect horizontal defects.
5. It is difficult to detect defects with complex shapes.
6. The size measurement of point defects is not precise enough.Ultrasonic comparison test block non-destructive testing test block
