The differences in electricity consumption during different periods and the magnitude of electricity consumption result in serious imbalances in the actual operation of the distribution network designed based on the average number of three-phase households. The vast majority of substations have serious three-phase imbalance exceeding the standard.
Unbalanced three-phase loads can cause a series of hazards:
1. The high current in the neutral line leads to an increase in voltage drop, loss, and temperature rise of the neutral line.
2. The distribution transformer has serious losses and heats up, which can easily cause fires and affect the normal operation of electrical equipment.
3. Neutral point deviation leads to a decrease in terminal voltage and an increase in voltage failure rate.
4. Load phase deviation may cause single-phase overload in the substation area, triggering the action of protective devices and resulting in widespread power outages.
Manually adjusting the load phase is time-consuming, laborious, and has poor timeliness, which cannot effectively solve the challenges brought by the increasingly serious three-phase load imbalance.
State Grid Corporation of China has increasingly attached importance to the management of three-phase load imbalance, and has issued documents such as the "Notice on Carrying out the Management of Three phase Load Imbalance in Distribution Stations", requiring the establishment of a regular monitoring and dynamic adjustment management mechanism for three-phase loads in distribution stations in accordance with the principles of "source prevention, regular monitoring, scientific measurement, and dynamic governance", effectively improving the quality of power supply in distribution stations, reducing the danger of distribution grids, and enhancing the level of economic operation.
