Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA)Specific principle:
1. Heating process: The sample is placed in a microbalance, usually connected to a heating furnace. The furnace temperature gradually increases, and the sample temperature rises with the increase of furnace temperature.
2. Quality measurement: The mass changes of the sample at different temperatures are recorded in real-time by the balance. The decrease in quality usually means that the sample has undergone some chemical changes at high temperatures, such as dehydration, desolvation, decomposition, or oxidation.
3. Data analysis: By analyzing the relationship between quality changes and temperature changes, the thermal decomposition temperature, decomposition rate, and other thermal stability data of the material can be obtained.
The operation steps of TGA experiment:
1. Sample preparation: Firstly, it is necessary to prepare the sample to be tested. The size, shape, and quality of the sample should be adjusted according to the experimental requirements. Generally speaking, samples should have a certain degree of uniformity to ensure the accuracy of test results.
2. Equipment debugging: Start the TGA equipment, set the appropriate experimental temperature range, heating rate, and experimental atmosphere (such as nitrogen, air, etc.). Usually, the test is preheated at room temperature and then gradually heated up.
3. Data collection: As the temperature increases, TGA equipment records real-time changes in sample quality and generates a mass temperature curve. According to the different stages of quality changes, the equipment can generate different thermal decomposition process diagrams.
4. Data analysis: After completing the test, the stability characteristics of the sample at different temperatures can be obtained by analyzing the quality temperature curve. Common analysis methods include calculating weight loss rate, decomposition temperature, etc.
