The principle of the 42i analyzer is based on the chemiluminescence reaction between nitric oxide (NO) and ozone (O3) to produce excited NO2 molecules. When the excited NO2 molecules return to the ground state, they emit light of a certain energy. The intensity of the emitted light is linearly related to the concentration of NO. The 42i analyzer uses the detection light intensity to detect NO. Its chemical reaction equation is as follows:

When detecting nitrogen dioxide (NO2), the instrument must first convert NO2 to NO and then detect it through chemiluminescence reaction. NO2 is converted to NO through a molybdenum converter The heating temperature of its converter is about 325 ℃ (optional stainless steel converter heating temperature is 625 ℃). As shown in Figure 1-1, the sample gas is drawn into the 42i analyzer through the inlet labeled SAMPLE, and then filtered through a particulate filter to reach an electromagnetic valve. The electromagnetic valve selects whether the sample gas path directly reaches the reaction chamber (NO measurement mode) or first passes through the NO2 to NO converter before entering the reaction chamber (NOX measurement mode). Install a limited flow capillary tube and flow sensor in front of the reaction chamber to control and measure the flow rate of the sample gas. Dry air enters the 42i analyzer through the DRY AIR inlet. After passing through the flow sensor, the dry air passes through the discharge type ozone generator. Ozone generators generate high concentrations of ozone required for chemical fluorescence reactions. Ozone reacts with NO in the sample gas to generate excited NO2 molecules, which are then detected by a photomultiplier tube for the fluorescence emitted when NO2 returns to the ground state. The instrument calculates the concentrations of NO and NOX detected in NO and NOX modes, stores the calculation results in memory, and uses the difference between the two concentrations to calculate the NO2 concentration.

The 42i instrument can not only display the concentration values of NO, NO2, and NOX on the front panel, but also output these values to the instrument's analog output terminal
