Overview of Road and Bridge Waterproof Coatings

Road and bridge waterproof materials are a new type of waterproof material product that has developed rapidly and been widely used in recent years.

Waterproof coating is a new type of composite waterproof coating produced by using special domestic asphalt or imported petroleum asphalt as the main raw material, supplemented with various surfactants and chemical additives, SBS thermoplastic rubber as auxiliary raw materials, and modified with high dosage of polymer resin.

Characteristics of Road and Bridge Waterproof Coating Products

1. The construction process is simple, and mechanical spraying or manual painting can be used for construction. It dries quickly and has a short construction period.

2. The cost of this waterproof layer is cheap, and generally only three coats are needed to achieve the waterproof effect.

3. The waterproof layer is firmly bonded to the base layer and the upper asphalt concrete.

Suitable for waterproofing projects such as highway bridges, urban overpasses, and bridges and culverts.

Construction, transportation, and storage

1. Preparation of construction tools: Before construction, mixing buckets, spraying machinery, or specialized bristle brushes should be prepared.

2. Grassroots requirements: The concrete strength of bridge decks and beams should meet the design grade, and there should be no loose floating slurry, peeling, hollowing, or severe cracking on the surface. The surface flatness should meet the requirements of bridge specifications, and the elevation of the upper opening of the vertical drainage pipe should be lower than the elevation of the base layer. The drainage outlet must be firmly installed with the base layer without any looseness.

3. The grassroots should be clean, dry, and free of standing water.

4. Base treatment: The base surface must be free of dust, floating ash, impurities, oil stains, etc. Before applying the waterproof layer, the surface can be cleaned with an air compressor, water purifier, degreaser, etc. If there are hard debris such as concrete and mortar, they should be polished off.

5. Construction steps of waterproof layer: (taking three coatings as an example)

1) Before painting, the bucket of paint should be stirred evenly.

2) Before applying a large area of paint, use a small brush to apply two coats of paint to the leak, strengthen the application of waterproof paint to the corners three times, and then apply a large area of paint once.

3) First, apply one coat of paint and let it dry before applying the second coat of material.

4) After the second coat of paint is dry, apply three coats of paint.

6. Coating dosage: 1.5kg/㎡, coating thickness is generally 0.5-0.77mm, spraying 1 kg/㎡.

7. The construction temperature should be between 0 and 35 degrees Celsius, and construction should not be carried out on rainy days or during freezing periods.

8. The packaged products are packed in covered iron drums with a weight of 200kg per drum. The drum is labeled with a product certificate of conformity. 50kg and 20kg packaging.

9. Transportation: This product is non-toxic and non flammable, and can be transported by general transportation methods.

10. Storage: The product has a storage period of 6 months and should be stored in a warehouse above 0 degrees Celsius. In summer, it should be avoided from direct sunlight.
