Sample testing process:

1. Sample pretreatment:

Solid samples: can be ground into uniform powder, the smaller the particles, the more complete the combustion, and the more accurate the results.

Plant/soil samples: need to be dried first to remove moisture. Moisture can cause poor combustion and even damage to the instrument furnace.

High fat samples, such as seeds and oil crops, need to be defatted with acetone or ethanol first, otherwise they are prone to carbon deposition and affect the lifespan of the instrument.

2. Accurate weighing

Use a high-precision electronic balance (recommended one in ten thousand balance) with an accuracy of 0.01mg.

The sample needs to be placed in a quartz tube, and quartz cotton should be placed at the front end of the quartz tube to block the ends of the quartz tube mouth and prevent air from entering.

Weighing samples should be determined based on the estimated content of elements in the sample. If the signal-to-noise ratio is too low, it may result in instrument overload. Generally, the sample size is between 2mg and 5mg, and more soil samples are needed.

The steps of weighing and placing the samples into the quartz tube have been completed. Next, we will begin measuring the samples

1. Power on and heating up

Turn on the power of the computer and instrument host

Follow the software prompts to select the correct analysis mode.

Introduce high-purity nitrogen gas and start heating up. The combustion furnace usually needs to be raised to around 950 degrees Celsius, and waiting is required during the heating process.

2. Calibration of standard curve

Before starting the sample testing, a standard curve must be established using standard substances

Usually, several blank and different concentration standard samples need to be made to ensure the linear correlation coefficient.

3. Machine testing

Place the prepared sample into the automatic sampler.

Enter the sample name and number in the software.

Set up the analysis sequence, click start, and the instrument will automatically complete the entire process of injection, combustion, reduction, separation, and detection.

After the sample measurement is completed, the instrument automatically outputs the results, which can be printed in report mode or copied, facilitating the analysis of the sample.

4. Shutdown and maintenance

After the measurement is completed, if the temperature of the reaction tube drops below 300 degrees, turn off the instrument software and host power.

Close the nitrogen cylinder valve

Regularly inspect and replace consumables such as reduction tubes and drying tubes to ensure that the instrument is in good condition.
