Insulin like growth factor 1 (IGF-I) is a 7.81 kDa insulin-like growth factor with 71 amino acid residues. IGF-I is mainly expressed in the liver, adipose tissue, cervix, endometrial stromal cells, and white blood cells, and can also be isolated from plasma. IGF-I is a mediator of pituitary growth hormone promoting protein synthesis and metabolism. IGF-I also affects glycogen metabolism, DNA synthesis, and glucose uptake by binding to IGF-I receptors.
