Ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) is a member of the IL-6 cytokine family, primarily expressed in the nervous system. Mouse CNTF shares 84% sequence homology with human CNTF. CNTF is a 22.9 kDa neurotrophic factor with 110 residues, which plays multiple roles in the development of vertebrate retinas. In addition, CNTF, as a promoter, can not only accelerate adult neurogenesis, but also improve the survival rate of neurons after injury.
