Hanging white block, also known as carved white block, chemical name formaldehyde sodium bisulfite, has bleaching and anti-corrosion effects. Due to its significant harm to human health, it is explicitly prohibited by the state from being added to food. This method is applicable to the rapid detection of sodium hypochlorite in vermicelli, Rice noodles, Rolls of dried bean milk creams, flour, Mantou, noodles, bamboo shoots, rice cakes, sugar and other foods.

Take 2-3 grams of shredded sample into a test tube or vessel, add double the amount of water, soak for 5-10 minutes, take 1ml of soaking supernatant into a 1.5ml centrifuge tube, add 1 drop of No.1 reagent, then add 2 drops of No.2 reagent, cover and mix well. After 1 minute, add 2 drops of No.3 reagent, mix well, and let it stand for 3 minutes to observe the color change of the solution.
【 Result judgment 】
If there is no change in the sample solution or the experimental result is the same as the blank solution, it is a negative result. If the sample solution appears orange, it is a positive result. Any food that contains suspended white pellets will exceed the sulfur dioxide limit. Therefore, when a sample shows a positive result for hanging white blocks, the sulfur dioxide content in the sample can be detected. If the sulfur dioxide content is greater than 0.2g/kg, it can be further determined that hanging white blocks have been added to the sample.
