The refractive index of PerMount is 1.52, which is close to the refractive index of fixed proteins, which helps to maintain the image without distortion. Thinner sealing layers do not occupy space and theoretically can seal thicker slices without affecting observation. When glass slides are stored in the dark, the pigments on the sample rarely fade or do not fade. PerMount contains an antioxidant to prevent the formation of annular rings.
