Glycerol, also known as glycerol, has the chemical formula C3H8O3. It is colorless, odorless, and has a sweet taste. It appears as a clear, viscous liquid and is an organic compound that can absorb moisture from the air, as well as hydrogen sulfide, hydrogen cyanide, and sulfur dioxide. Difficult to dissolve in benzene, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, carbon disulfide, petroleum ether, and oils, it is the backbone component of triglyceride molecules.
Colorless, transparent, odorless, viscous liquid with a sweet taste and hygroscopicity. It is miscible with water, alcohols, amines, and phenols in any ratio, and the aqueous solution is neutral. Dissolve in 11 times ethyl acetate and approximately 500 times ethyl ether. Insoluble in benzene, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, carbon disulfide, petroleum ether, oils, and long-chain fatty alcohols. Combustible, can cause combustion and explosion when exposed to strong oxidants such as chromium dioxide and chloric acid. It is also a good solvent for many inorganic salts and gases. It is non corrosive to metals and can be oxidized to bin aldehyde when used as a solvent.
