The 3S-UVFL oil analyzer is based on the fluorescence photometry of active species dissolved or suspended in water.

Using specific wavelengths of ultraviolet light to irradiate the sample, the chemical species in the sample absorb the energy of the radiation and release some of the energy in the form of heat, converting some of the energy into new radiation in the visible light region. The intensity of the emitted radiation is directly proportional to the concentration of the molecule we want to measure. This instrument is particularly suitable for determining aromatic hydrocarbons in water samples.
