Overview

Sutter's needle drawing machines in the United States can be divided into vertical drawing machines and horizontal drawing machines The horizontal microelectrode puller (needle puller) uses elastic or electric force for single or multiple draws This latter type of drawing instrument can be used to draw intracellular electrodes, usually controlled by a microprocessor during the drawing process, and can also be drawn using laser technology, thus enabling the drawing of quartz glass tubes

Product Details

Glass microelectrode is a component of the patch clamp system that is directly sealed to the cell membrane through a probe. The microelectrode is mainly made of different glass blank tubes and is drawn by controlling parameters such as temperature, tension, and drawing time of the microelectrode puller Generally, drawing instruments can be divided into vertical and horizontal types The vertical drawing instrument uses a metal wire (tungsten wire or platinum wire wound into a spiral tube) to heat a glass tube to its melting point through high current, and then breaks it by gravity The horizontal drawing instrument uses elastic or electric force for single or multiple draws This latter type of drawing instrument can be used to draw intracellular electrodes, usually controlled by a microprocessor during the drawing process, and can also be drawn using laser technology, thus enabling the drawing of quartz glass tubes

The P-97 programmable horizontal microelectrode puller from Sutter Corporation in the United States is commonly used for the fabrication of various glass, quartz, and other microelectrodes. As commonly used microelectrodes in experiments, it is widely used in electrophysiology and cell injection experiments. Sutter Corporation's P-97 programmable horizontal microelectrode puller has been identified as the standard equipment for electrophysiology and cell injection laboratories.

The P-97 needle puller produces smooth and neat electrodes that do not require grinding.

The P-97 microelectrode puller is a Flaming/Brown type microelectrode, patch clamp electrode, and microinjection needle puller. Adhering to many advantages of the P-87, the P-97 further enhances the design of mechanical, electrical, and software aspects. The drawing process is easier to control and has a higher level of repeatability. The P-97 integrates mature programmable microprocessors into reliable mechanical systems. Programmable control of drawing parameters enables researchers to design electrodes for specific applications across a wide range of glass compositions and sizes.

Many new mechanical features were integrated into the design of P-97. The most obvious one is the cavity wrapped around the heating wire. The humidity control chamber is designed to minimize the impact of humidity changes on repeatability in the drawn electrode. The power has increased by 25% compared to the previous version, making it suitable for larger heating wires, larger diameter glass tubes, and multi tube glass. The redesign of the metal clamp that holds onto the heating wire minimizes residual heat. The air supply switch provides external cooling for large diameter and multi tube glass. Add a spring clamping mechanism to facilitate the fixation of glass electrodes. Increasing vacuum fluorescence display facilitates observation from all directions.

The new software improves the display of heating time, which helps with program expansion and fault diagnosis. Up to 100 more programs can be written and stored in memory, making the P-97 more useful for many users. Now programs can set write protection; This added protection prevents programs from being modified and accidentally deleted. After the program is written, the programming and editing dates are also stored in it. Atmospheric pressure is also a programming parameter.

The speed at which the glass softens and begins to separate under a fixed tension is measured. The initial drawing speed stops increasing due to the viscosity of the glass, followed by the temperature of the glass. Adjustable speed allows for precise selection of glass temperature to the critical point of excessive tension. The drawing machine uses the principle of rapid cooling of heating wires to create a special short cone for the pointed and fine electrodes, resulting in electrodes that are particularly hard and suitable for grinding at oblique angles. Another advantage of a short cone is that the connected dual tube electrodes reduce resistance and capacitance.

Microelectrode puller (needle puller)The P-97 includes a bending test to overcome the difficulty of program adjustment after the installation of a new heating wire, and to help determine the bonding characteristics between the new glass tube and the heating wire. This measurement helps to adjust the heating temperature value when setting up the program, providing an evaluation for temperature settings when using glass tubes of new sizes and compositions.
Like all SUTTER instruments, its carefully designed electrical components minimize noise to the greatest extent possible.
1) Program control to change air pressure.
2) Air source with filtration system and humidity control.
3) The diameter of the pulled glass microelectrode is less than 0.1 μ m.
4) When drawing large diameter or multi tube glass, cooling mode can be selected for gas supply.
