Excessive heat from end face conflicts can cause the following damages:

(2) End face thermal deformation increases leakage and wear;
(3) Intensify corrosion;
(4) Assist in the aging and degradation of the sealing ring before it fails;
(5) Leakage occurs due to carbonization or melting of graphite impregnated material.
So the end face temperature rise is the enemy of PTFE gaskets.
