Metrix was founded by Peter J. Sundt in 1965, and its roots can be traced back to seismic measurement technology. Initially focused on geophysical exploration, this technology also discovered rich applications for industrial machine vibration measurement. Therefore, mechanical condition monitoring has become our only focus, and it has been so for 55 years.

Metrix Instruments was founded in 1965 and is located in Houston, Texas, USA. Metrix was the first company in the market to produce 4-20mA vibration transmitters, greatly simplifying vibration monitoring and reducing costs. Obtained ISO9001 quality system certification in 1992. Metrix produces a full range of vibration measurement and monitoring equipment, providing early warning of potential mechanical failures. The products include: proximity systems, sensors, shell mounted sensors, switches, transmitters, signal conditioners, monitors, and handheld displays.

Metrix has pioneered a simple and cost-effective mechanical protection concept with our mechanical vibration switch products, revolutionary 4-20mA vibration transmitters, robust high-temperature speed sensors, and innovative impact transmitter technology for reciprocating machinery.

In 1998, we acquired PMC/BETA, the electronic vibration switch supplier of QuanQ LingX. In 2007, we acquired Hardy Instruments' vibration monitoring division and its industry-leading portable vibration calibrator X.

Metrix has been ISO-9001 certified for over 20 years, ensuring that we never overlook the continuous improvement of quality and our manufacturing processes. We offer a complete 36 month warranty to support the quality of our products.

Metrix operates as a division of Roper Technologies, Inc., a diversified technology company and a constituent stock of the S&P 500 Index, Fortune 1000 Index, and Russell 1000 Index.

Metrix ST5484E is an independent, loop powered seismic velocity transmitter that integrates a piezoelectric accelerometer, signal integrator, RMS peak detector, and 4-20 mA signal conditioner into a sturdy package. The transmitter can be directly installed on the chassis or bearing box without any intervention of signal conditioning equipment. Its 4-20 mA output signal is compatible with most industrial process control instruments, such as PLC, DCS, and SCADA systems, providing trend and/or alarm functions for simple and economical vibration monitoring solutions. The transmitter also offers a 4-wire version, with two additional wires providing direct access to the raw acceleration signal, making it easy to connect to portable data collectors and analyzers. The transmitter has no moving parts and is enclosed in a stainless steel casing. Each transmitter undergoes factory calibration to achieve the sensitivity marked on the label. Optional dynamic signal output can be specified.

Provides an extremely wide range of output, installation stud options, hazardous area certification, and 316 stainless steel housing material options (303 stainless steel is standard configuration).

For flexibility and ease of wiring, three basic styles are provided:

flying wire

terminal block

2-pin MIL connector

Product approximate weight: 0.36 kilograms

The transmitter body should be firmly installed on the surface of the machine, which is very important. Please refer to Section 6 for information on transducer placement. Two basic transmitter installation methods require different machine preparations; NPT (National Pipe Thread) and Machine Thread (NDF and Metric). The transmitter with NPT type mounting bolts is fixed by threaded engagement, and the transmitter base does not come into contact with the machine surface. On the other hand, transmitters with machine threaded studs must be in contact with the machine surface. The base of the transmitter must be square and in direct contact. This requires pre-treatment of the machine surface with a 1/2-inch countersunk hole. This tool can be used with portable drilling rigs equipped with magnetic bases, but care must be taken to ensure that the threaded holes are perpendicular to the machined surface. The transmitter must be located around its base surfaceWQContact. For detailed instructions on using counterholes, please contact Metrix. If installing a transmitter with standard 1/4 inch NPT studs, use a 7/16 inch drill bit to drill a 5/8 inch deep hole. Then fix the 1/4 p18 NPT (tapered pipe joint) with tape. Tighten the transmitter by hand, then use a wrench (wrench flat) to turn it another 1 to 2 turns. Do not use pliers. Pipe pliers may apply to the bodyJDThe force may cause damage to electronic components. At least five (5) mating threads should be made. 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch NPT sleeves can be used to install the transmitter into existing 1/2 inch NPT holes. In addition, when there is not enough surface thickness to drill and tap, a 7084 flange adapter can be used between the transmitter and the machine surface. The flange adapter is installed with three small screws. If the installed transmitter has a straight thread size, please follow the standard drilling and tapping procedures. Before using a counterbore to prepare the machine surface, be sure to drill a hole larger than the guide diameter of the counterbore. After preparing the surface, drill the hole with the correct size tap.
