METRIX mechanical vibration switch

METRIX mechanical vibration switches are designed to meet requirements through single, economical packaging. $r $n is a medium low speed mechanical vibration protection. If the vibration exceeds the adjustable set value, the inertia sensitive mechanism will activate the quick action switch with SPDT output contacts. The 5550 mechanical vibration switch contacts can be used to activate alarms or initiate equipment shutdown. The housing is weatherproof and has optional hazardous areas. Electrical (remote) reset with startup time delay and second set of SPDT output contacts to meet DPDT requirements (such as separate trip and trip light circuits).

　　METRIX mechanical vibration switch

The 5550 mechanical switch is a simple inertial device that integrates a "cross center" spring and a large number of mechanical devices. It is designed to be stable in two ways: non triggered and triggered. When sufficiently excited by inertia, this fast mechanical device will cause the switch to bounce from non triggered to triggered, changing the relay contact state and allowing the switch to be used for alarm notification and/or automatically closing the circuit for the machine. Internally, there is a movable mass block (trigger plate) on the pivot device, which can ignore friction and a single degree of freedom. The trigger plate responds to dynamic vibration stress. In addition, due to the spring adjustment mechanism and gravity, this trigger plate has a preloaded stress acting on it. Preloading stress becomes the trigger set point for the switch. When the vibration excitation is less than the set point, the switch remains non triggered (Figure A); when the vibration stress exceeds the set point, the switch jumps to triggered (Figure B).

The set point of 5550 is constantly adjusted by changing the spring angle (and, for smaller angles, its tension) through a screw. When the trigger piece is moved to trigger, it will press a micro switch (shown in red in Figure A and Figure B) to change the state of the large relay, embedded in the switch mechanical device. It is precisely this type of relay that has greater voltage/current capability and is used in practical machine control circuits to generate or break electrical continuity, thus effectively acting as a "kill switch" for the machine and protecting against excessive vibration stress.

　　Maintenance is crucial for measuring quality

Although designing switches for installation is convenient for maintenance and upkeep, it is not the main consideration. As a mechanical sensor and suitable mechanical protection, the switch must be installed on a ground where the mechanical inertia tension generated under mechanical fault conditions is sufficient to trigger the switch. Therefore, switches should have excellent mechanical sensing rather than excellent serviceability, which must be the main consideration. Then, in most cases, a wise choice of installation and switching direction will meet both of these needs.

Sensitive axis

The 5550 switch is designed to respond to inertial tension only in its sensitive axis (Figure D). When the switch is not installed properly, relatively large inertial tension occurs in other parts of the machine and will not be transmitted correctly to the switch, and/or will occur in the direction perpendicular to the sensitive axis of the switch. These two conditions make the triggering of the switch less effective, or even ineffective.

horizontal

The horizontal direction of the switch means that its sensitive axis is perpendicular to the direction of gravity (refer to Figure D1). In this direction, the gravitational influence acting on the switch triggering device can be ignored, and the triggering point is almost dominated by the spring part. It is recommended to face the switch horizontally, as most machines have fewer constraints in the horizontal direction than in the vertical direction, resulting in greater vibration in the horizontal direction.

Vertical direction

The vertical orientation of the switch means that it is installed parallel to the direction of gravity on the sensitive axis. Vertical installation of switches is not recommended because most machines have more constraints in the vertical direction than in the horizontal direction, resulting in less vibration in the vertical direction. When installed vertically, the switch is not as effective because most machines have less inertial tension in the vertical direction.
