Product Details

Leica polarizing microscope, as a precision optical instrument, requires maintenance that combines the characteristics of optical, mechanical, and electronic systems to ensure stable polarization path, clear imaging, and extended equipment life. The following are detailed maintenance methods, divided into four parts: daily maintenance, regular maintenance, long-term storage, and troubleshooting:
1、 Daily maintenance (after each use)
Optical system cleaning
Objective lens and eyepiece:
Use a specialized blowing balloon to remove surface dust and avoid direct wiping that may cause scratches.
If wiping is required, dip a small amount of anhydrous ethanol (or specialized lens cleaning solution) in a degreasing cotton and gently wipe from the center to the outside in a spiral manner. After drying, cover the dust cover with a back cover.
Polarizer and analyzer:
Polarizers are sensitive to scratches, so when cleaning, use lens paper to gently press and absorb dust, avoiding back and forth wiping.
If the polarizer is aged or damaged (such as a decrease in polarization efficiency), it is necessary to contact Leica to replace the original parts.
Focusing lens and filter:
Use a soft bristled brush to remove dust, and if necessary, use a cotton swab dipped in ethanol to clean the edges to prevent liquid from seeping into the interior.
Mechanical component inspection
Stage and focusing mechanism:
Rotate the coarse/fine focus knob to confirm that there is no stuttering or abnormal noise. If necessary, lubricate it (using Leica specified lubricant).
Avoid applying excessive force when moving the stage to prevent gear wear.
Polarized rotary table:
Check if the polarizer rotates smoothly and if the dial reading is accurate. Adjust with calibration tools if necessary.
Light source and power management
Before turning off the light source, adjust the brightness to low to extend the lifespan of the bulb (this step is not required for LED light sources).
Before unplugging the power cord, make sure the device is turned off to avoid voltage surges damaging the circuit.
2、 Regular maintenance of Leica polarizing microscope (every 3-6 months)
optical path alignment
Polarization direction calibration:
Use a standard polarizer (such as a λ/4 waveplate) to check if the polarizer and analyzer are perpendicular (extinction position is dark).
If there is light leakage, fine tune it by rotating the polarizer or adjusting the optical path bracket.
Kohler lighting calibration:
Adjust the height of the spotlight and aperture stop to make the field of view uniform and bright, avoiding dark corners at the edges.
Lubrication of mechanical components
Apply a thin layer of silicone grease (such as Molykote) to metal components such as the stage guide rails and focusing gears to reduce wear.
Avoid lubricating oil from contacting optical components or circuit boards.
Electrical system testing
Check if the power and data cable interfaces are loose, and use a multimeter to test voltage stability (input voltage must meet equipment requirements).
Clean the dust inside the equipment (operated by professionals to prevent damage to precision components).
3、 Long term storage (over 1 month)
environmental control
Store in a dry and shock resistant cabinet, with humidity controlled at 30% -50% and temperature between 15-25 ℃.
Avoid contact with corrosive gases (such as hydrogen sulfide) or strong magnetic fields.
Component protection
Remove the objective lens and place it in a dedicated box, and seal the eyepiece with a dust cover.
Rotate the polarizer to a fixed position (such as 0 °) and wrap it with plastic film to prevent moisture deformation.
Lower the stage and lock the focusing mechanism to avoid long-term fatigue of the spring.
Regularly power on
Start up and run for 30 minutes every 2-3 weeks to dispel internal moisture and prevent circuit board oxidation.

4、 Fault handling and taboos
Common faults and solutions
The image is dark:
Check if the light source is aging (the lifespan of halogen lamps is about 2000 hours), and replace the bulb with a new one.
Clean the spotlight and aperture stop to ensure a smooth light path.
Polarization extinction:
Re calibrate the angle between the polarizer and analyzer, or check if the polarizer is damaged.
Carrier drift:
Tighten the focusing mechanism screws or replace worn gear components.
Absolute taboo
It is prohibited to use organic solvents to clean plastic parts (such as eyelets and stage handles), as it may cause cracking or discoloration.
Avoid touching the surface of optical components directly with your hands, as sweat can corrode the coating layer.
Core optical modules (such as objective lens converters and polarizing beam splitters) must not be disassembled by oneself and must be returned to the factory for repair.
5、 Leica polarizing microscope requires professional maintenance advice
Annual comprehensive maintenance: Contact Leica authorized service center for in-depth inspection of optical paths, mechanical accuracy, and electronic systems.
Spare parts reserve: Keep readily available vulnerable parts (such as light bulbs, polarizers, seals) to avoid maintenance delays caused by production stoppage.
Operation training: Regularly provide maintenance skills training to users, standardize operation procedures to reduce human damage.
