Classification of Labor Easy Test Sensors
Sensors can be classified from different perspectives: their conversion principles (basic physical or chemical effects of sensor operation); Their purpose; Their output signal types, as well as the materials and processes used to make them.
According to the working principle of sensors, they can be divided into two categories: physical sensors and chemical sensors
The classification of sensor working principle: Physical sensors are applied to physical effects such as piezoelectric effect, magnetostriction phenomenon, ionization, polarization, thermoelectric, photoelectric, magneto electric and other effects. Small changes in the measured signal quantity will be converted into electrical signals.
Chemical sensors include those sensors that use phenomena such as chemical adsorption and electrochemical reactions as causal relationships, and small changes in the measured signal quantity will also be converted into electrical signals.
Some sensors cannot be classified as either physical or chemical. Most sensors operate based on physical principles. There are many technical problems with chemical sensors, such as reliability issues, the possibility of large-scale production, and price issues. Solving these problems will lead to significant growth in the application of chemical sensors.

According to their purpose, sensors can be classified as:

Sensors can be classified based on their output signals as follows:
Analog sensor - converts measured non electrical quantities into analog electrical signals.
Digital sensors - convert measured non electrical quantities into digital output signals (including direct and indirect conversion).
Pseudo digital sensor - an output that converts the measured signal into a frequency signal or short period signal (including direct or indirect conversion).
Switch sensor - When a measured signal reaches a specific threshold, the sensor outputs a set low or high level signal accordingly.
Under the influence of external factors, all materials will exhibit corresponding and characteristic reactions. The materials that are most sensitive to external effects, namely those with functional characteristics, are used to make the sensitive components of sensors. From the perspective of the materials used, sensors can be classified into the following categories:
(1) Classified by the type of materials used

(2) According to the physical properties of materials, they can be classified as conductors, insulators, semiconductors, and magnetic materials
(3) Classified by the crystal structure of the material

The development of sensors closely related to the adoption of new materials can be summarized into the following three directions:
(1) Explore new phenomena, effects, and reactions in known materials, and then enable them to be practically used in sensor technology.
(2) Explore new materials and apply known phenomena, effects, and reactions to improve sensor technology.
(3) Exploring new phenomena, effects, and reactions based on the study of new materials, and implementing them in sensor technology.
The progress of modern sensor manufacturing depends on the development intensity of new materials and sensitive components used in sensor technology. The basic trend in sensor development is closely related to the application of semiconductors and dielectric materials. Table 1.2 presents some materials that can be used for sensor technology and can convert energy forms.
According to their manufacturing process, sensors can be classified into:
Integrated sensors - Thin film sensors - Thick film sensors - Ceramic sensors
Integrated sensors are manufactured using standard manufacturing techniques for silicon-based semiconductor integrated circuits. Usually, some circuits used for preliminary processing of the measured signal are also integrated on the same chip.
Thin film sensors are formed by depositing thin films of corresponding sensitive materials on a dielectric substrate (substrate). When using a hybrid process, some circuits can also be manufactured on this substrate.
Thick film sensors are made by coating a ceramic substrate with a slurry of corresponding materials, usually made of Al2O3, and then subjecting it to heat treatment to shape the thick film.
Ceramic sensors are produced by standard ceramic process or some variant process (sol gel, etc.).
After completing appropriate preparatory operations, the formed components are sintered at high temperatures. There are many common characteristics between thick film and ceramic sensors, and in some aspects, thick film technology can be considered a variation of ceramic technology.
Each process technology has its own advantages and disadvantages. Due to the low capital investment required for research, development, and production, as well as the high stability of the parameters of labor-intensive sensors, it is more reasonable to use ceramic and thick film sensors.
