INSTRON VHS
Instron offers a range of high strain rate testing machines capable of performing tests ranging from quasi-static to strain rates up to 1000/s, covering the needs of various materials and strain rates. From composite materials to metals, from high-strength alloys to polymer materials, there is always a VHS system that suits your materials and applications.
Equipped with our specially designed accessories, your sample will be tested when it reaches the target speed, rather than during the acceleration process. Our carefully selected actuator stroke will ensure sufficient effective stroke for sample testing. Our standard VHS machine can perform tests ranging from less than 1 mm/s to 20 m/s, with great flexibility in experimental setup and sample design to meet the vast majority of application requirements. We also have an option for the VHS 65/80 model that can reach 25 m/s, suitable for applications that require higher strain rate testing.

Our 300 mm stroke allows sufficient actuator acceleration and deceleration distance to meet the testing needs of most composite and metal materials. We also offer a 600 mm stroke system to correspond to larger elongation polymer materials, increasing the variety of materials that can be tested at high strain rates.
Multiple energy storage devices, high flow servo valve systems, and actuator combinations ensure sufficient flow output, reducing the speed drop during open-loop control loading of samples to a very low level

Controller and software
The Instron VHS testing system is equipped with a dedicated VHS 8800MT controller, using the Instron high-speed testing software package to provide integrated experience and analysis functions. The VHS 8800 MT controller is suitable for various applications and complex speed models, providing high-speed data acquisition and statistical analysis and modeling tools for fast post-processing. The optional DIC system provides additional data and can be integrated into the VHS system, providing complete testing capabilities.

Safety first
The Instron VHS machine is capable of testing at speeds up to 25 m/s through controlled large capacity high-pressure hydraulic flow. Considering this, operator safety is our absolute priority in the design of these systems.
Interlocking safety covers can prevent operators from accidentally entering the testing area during the testing process
All critical safety components are equipped with dual hydraulic circuits, which comply with the relevant machinery directives of the European Union
The system has fully passed CE certification

Data processing, software, and camera integration
The test lasts only 3-10 ms (depending on the sample), and to meet this demanding requirement, the Instron high-speed testing software package provides data acquisition frequencies up to 60 MHz, advanced analytical capabilities, and data acquisition and analysis capabilities for high-speed strain gauges with bandwidths up to 200 kHz.
