Bridges are the 'lifeline' of urban transportation, and every inspection is to build a strong safety line for citizens' travel. ”Recently, the Highway Maintenance Center carried out a special underwater inspection work for the GG37 Line Second Bridge. By introducing a third-party professional technical team and advanced equipment, a comprehensive "physical examination" and "consultation" were conducted on the underwater foundation piers and columns of the bridge to ensure the safety and stability of the bridge structure.

The key components such as pile foundations, abutments, and pier bodies hidden deep underwater in bridges are important structures for ensuring bridge safety. Among the 291 bridges on ordinary national and provincial roads, 72 bridges have underwater components. Through three years of careful deployment and precise implementation, the highway department has successfully completed the testing of underwater pile foundations and related components of bridges, achieving full coverage of underwater component testing for ordinary national and provincial roads and bridges in the city. According to the testing and evaluation results, the overall technical condition of the underwater components of the bridge is good. At the same time, about 126 pile foundations with defects were quickly repaired and disposed of, and safety hazards were promptly eliminated.
The Second Bridge is located downstream of the dam of the power station. Due to several heavy rains in the rainy season of 2025, the power station frequently conducts flood discharge operations, causing continuous erosion of the underwater pier foundation of the bridge. In order to accurately grasp the actual condition of the underwater pile foundation of the bridge, the highway maintenance center commissioned a professional inspection team to conduct a comprehensive exploration of the pier foundation using a combination of diving detection and sonar scanning technology. During the inspection process, technicians use high-definition camera equipment to record the details of underwater structures, combined with sonar data to generate a three-dimensional model, ensuring that disease identification is angle free.

The municipal highway department strictly implements the requirements of the "Maintenance Specification for Highway Bridges and Culverts" and the "Technical Regulations for Underwater Component Inspection of Highway Bridges", actively responds to the call of the province and city for the application of "four new" technologies, innovatively adopts "underwater robot inspection" and other "four new" technologies to replace the traditional diver diving inspection method, not only accurately adapts to complex water environments, but also significantly reduces the probability of safety accidents, improves inspection efficiency, and solves the problem of "unclear and unclear" underwater components. At the same time, an efficient "check and handle" mechanism has been established to address the relevant issues discovered during the inspection process, ensuring a seamless transition from the discovery to the elimination of risk points in underwater bridge components.
The safety issues of underwater bridge components caused by complex geological conditions, changes in riverbed cross-sections, perennial erosion and corrosion of water flow are difficult to detect in routine bridge inspections, and have always been blind spots that are difficult to reach in routine testing.



After two days of precise operation, the inspection team completed a comprehensive inspection of six underwater piers that were severely eroded. The results showed that the overall structure of the bridge foundation was intact, and no cracks, corrosion or other diseases were found. Only about 160 square meters of debris were piled up around the upstream piers 2-3, 5-2, and 6-4. In response, the highway maintenance center immediately deployed professional obstacle removal equipment to efficiently clear debris and eliminate potential safety hazards.
The underwater component inspection of this round of bridges has laid a solid safety foundation for ensuring the "strong muscles and bones" of the major arteries in the road network.
