Main purpose:
Mainly used for the determination of mercury content in water bodies, solid and gas samples need to be chemically extracted, digested, absorbed, and processed into aqueous solutions for measurement.
Measurement principle:
Based on the fact that elemental mercury can evaporate into mercury vapor at room temperature without heating, it has a strong absorption effect on ultraviolet light with a wavelength of 253.7nm. Within this range, the concentration of mercury is proportional to the absorption value, which conforms to Beer's law. Using the principle of cold atomic absorption and Lambert Beer's law, an oxidized water sample is added to a boiling flask, a core is inserted, and stannous chloride is added at the upper inlet of the core to reduce mercury ions in the water sample to elemental mercury. The vacuum pump uses a carrier gas (such as air) to bring the mercury vapor released from the reaction between stannous chloride and water sample in the foam bottle into the colorimetric cell. The receiver receives the light signal and determines the concentration of mercury vapor based on the change in light intensity.
