Overview

Germanium (Ge) single crystal is a chemically inert material with a transmission spectrum range of 2-12 μ m, and is a commonly used infrared optical material. It has the characteristics of high hardness, good thermal conductivity, and insolubility in water. Widely used in infrared imaging systems and infrared spectrometer systems. Germanium single crystal has good mechanical and thermal properties, with very low absorption at 10.6 μ m. The window processed with germanium single crystal is CO2 laser, and it can also be used to make substrates for various filters

The application of germanium in infrared optics is mainly used to manufacture infrared optical lenses and protect the infrared optical windows of infrared optical lenses. More than 60% of mid to low end infrared optical lenses are made of germanium single crystal, and 50% of infrared optical lenses are made of germanium single crystal. Germanium material is widely used in infrared lenses. In civilian infrared lenses, a single set of small and medium aperture lenses consumes about 250 grams of germanium, while a large aperture lens consumes about 2500 grams.
Infrared windows are mainly used in aircraft and armored vehicles, especially in helicopters where they are widely used. The applications of infrared optical lenses include military and civilian use. In military applications, they are mainly used in airborne infrared lenses, shipborne infrared lenses, roadbed infrared lenses, vehicle mounted infrared lenses, infrared lenses, helmet infrared lenses, handheld infrared lenses, etc.
The civilian infrared window is mainly used in various monitoring thermal imagers and night driving assistance cameras. In the civilian field, it is mainly used in security, civilian vehicles, civilian ships, civilian aircraft, etc.
