Gas liquid displacement (bubble pressure method): Apply pressure difference on both sides of the membrane to overcome the surface tension of the wetting solution in the membrane pores, drive the wetting solution through the pores, and obtain the pore size data of the through-hole throat of the membrane material. This method is also the standard method for ASTM thin film determination.

Liquid liquid displacement method: After immersing the tested filter material in the infiltrating solution, a liquid that is immiscible with the infiltrating solution is used as the displacement solution to displace the infiltrating solution out of the through-hole; The pore size data of the filter material can be obtained based on the Washburn formula using liquid flow rate and pressure data. Due to the fact that the interfacial tension between liquid and liquid is much lower than that between gas and liquid, compared to the gas-liquid displacement method (bubble pressure method), the liquid-liquid displacement method can test filter materials with smaller pore sizes.


Scope of application

Throat testing of through holes in materials such as filter membranes, fiber membranes, filter cartridges, battery separators, fabrics, non-woven fabrics, paper, ceramics, sintered metals, rocks, and concrete.
