The working principle of an ultrasonic level gauge is that the transducer emits ultrasonic pulses that are reflected back from the surface of the measured medium. Some of the reflected echoes are received by the same transducer and converted into electrical signals. Ultrasonic pulses propagate at the speed of sound waves, and the time interval required from emission to reception of ultrasonic pulses is proportional to the distance from the transducer to the surface of the measured medium. The relationship between the distance value S and the speed of sound and transmission time T can be expressed by the formula: S=C × T/2, which is widely used for measuring the height of various liquid and solid materials.
