Overview

The outer cone metal tube float flowmeter is a special structural form of the rotor flowmeter (float flowmeter). Its core feature is the use of an inner and outer cone tube design, with the main measuring tube formed in one go and an all metal structure. It has the advantages of short stroke, miniaturization, and strong stability. It has significant differences in structure and principle compared to traditional rotor flow meters and V-cone flow meters.

Core working principle

The external cone rotor flowmeter is based on the principles of constant pressure difference and variable area measurement, and achieves flow measurement through a force balance mechanism
  1. Three force balance mechanism: the rotor (float) is subjected to three key forces in the fluid
    • Fluid dynamic pressure: upward, increases with the increase of flow velocity

    • Buoyancy: Upward, determined by fluid density

    • Gravity: downwards, the weight of the rotor itself

  2. Traffic location correspondence relationship
    • When there is no flow: the rotor sinks to the bottom of the cone tube due to gravity

    • Flow increase: The dynamic pressure increases, driving the rotor to rise

    • Balance state: When the rotor rises, the annular flow area expands, the flow velocity decreases, and the dynamic pressure decreases until the three forces are balanced

    • Stability indicator: The height of the rotor's stable position corresponds one-to-one with the flow rate, and the flow rate value is displayed through magnetic coupling or direct reading

    • Measurement medium: liquid/gas/vapor, density, viscosity, corrosiveness

    • Flow range: Normal flow should be between 30% -80% of the range

    • Working conditions: temperature, pressure, pipeline diameter (DN15~DN200)

    • Accuracy requirement: Choose 1.0 or 1.5 level according to process requirements

  2. Installation precautions
    • Installation location: Avoid vibration, high temperature radiation, and strong electromagnetic field interference

    • Straight pipe section: upstream ≥ 5D, downstream ≥ 3D (D is the inner diameter of the pipeline)

    • Flow direction: must be consistent with the flow direction marked on the cone tube (usually from bottom to top)

    • Maintenance: Regularly check the flexibility of the rotor, clean the inner wall of the measuring tube, and ensure that there are no sediments affecting the measurement accuracy
