Overview: Meets the SL264-2020 standard and is suitable for on-site direct shear tests (in-situ rock, soil large-scale direct shear, in-situ slope large-scale shear, etc.), rigid pressure plate method rock deformation tests, and force, displacement, or deformation parameter tests. The on-site direct shear tester for rock mass is mainly used for shear testing of soil in the field. Usually, different normal (vertical) loads are applied to at least 3 rock mass samples in each group. After the normal load is stable, horizontal (tangential) shear forces are applied to cause the rock mass samples to fail on a determined shear plane. The shear stress of the sample failure is recorded. The on-site shear test can be conducted in test pits, test trenches, and test holes. This test adopts the stress controlled push method.

3、 Sample preparation and installation

The thrust direction of the flat push method should be consistent with the engineering shear direction

The shear surface of the specimen should be processed into a rectangle, with a side length not less than 50cm and a height not less than 2/3 of the minimum side length.

The spacing between the three specimens should be greater than 1.5 times the minimum side length, and the surrounding rock surface should be chiseled and leveled.

Four pairs of rock masses with developed cracks and easy to be crushed require the pouring of reinforced concrete protective sleeves or steel molds. The protective cover should have sufficient strength and rigidity. A 2cm shear joint should be reserved between the bottom of the protective cover and the bedrock

When there is a special need, a protective layer should be reserved, protective measures should be taken, and a certain normal stress should be applied before sample preparation to avoid disturbing the rock mass due to stress release.

The top surface of the specimen or protective cover should be parallel to the predetermined shear plane

4、 Introduction to the operation and use of the direct shear apparatus for stress control using the rigid compression plate method with rock deformation modulus:

Installation of normal pressure system

Lay a layer of cement mortar on top of the specimen, and place a steel pad parallel to the predetermined shear plane.

Place the roller row, pad, jack, pad, and transmission column on the pad in sequence

Pour concrete or mortar between the top pad and the rock surface, or install a reaction device.

All components of the entire normal load system should be kept on the same axis in the loading direction and perpendicular to the predetermined shear plane.

The normal load system should have sufficient strength and stiffness. When the shear plane is inclined or the load system exceeds a certain height, the normal load system should be supported.

After installation, start the jack and apply contact pressure to make the entire normal load system tightly in contact. The jack piston should reserve sufficient travel.

When it is not possible to use the roof of the cave as a reaction support in an open-air area, ground anchors or compression methods can be used as reaction devices.
