A key advantage of the supercritical CO2 extraction device is its ability to accurately dissolve the target product. This can be achieved by changing the operating pressure, temperature, solvent to raw material ratio, and flow rate of CO2.
The active ingredients of natural products are very complex, and more often than not, we are not sure which one (or several) of them has therapeutic value, even if scientists identify all the ingredients one by one.
Due to the technical difficulties and high costs involved in synthesizing these components, a simple solution is to find a way to directly extract them from medicinal plants. We can use different pressures and temperatures, from subcritical to supercritical, to extract almost all components (including non-polar and weakly polar dilute substances) from medicinal plants.
Unlike other commercial devices, the SFT NPX-10 natural product (medicinal plant) supercritical extractor is designed to obtain the complete components of medicinal plants. The target substance obtained from extraction remains in its "natural" state while maintaining its original properties. Carbon dioxide can be directly emitted or recovered and reused through a recycling system. Due to the direct correlation between the solubility of fluids and pressure, the complete composition of medicinal plants can be obtained by continuously changing the pressure. Compared with traditional solvent extraction, separation can also be achieved by controlling pressure.
The basic principle of CO2 supercritical extraction equipment is to fully contact the supercritical fluid with the extract (liquid or solid), so that the extracted substance is fully dissolved in the supercritical fluid, and then change the temperature or pressure (i.e. change the density of the supercritical fluid) to precipitate the extracted substance. Compared with traditional volumetric extraction, using a supercritical CO2 extractor to extract active ingredients from plants, Chinese herbs, spices, and many other natural products has many advantages. ① The solubility of extractants can be easily controlled by adjusting temperature and pressure; ② Can be operated at low temperatures without damaging the active components in the extract; ③ Can reach equilibrium quickly, with fast extraction rate and short production cycle; ④ Solvent recovery is simple and convenient, with no residue present; ⑤ The extractant can be recycled, does not produce three wastes, and does not pollute the environment.

Water free cooling system: The integrated Peltier water free electronic cooling system is used to cool the liquid/gaseous carbon dioxide from the carbon dioxide tank, keeping it below -4C. The cooled carbon dioxide is directly pumped by a pneumatic pump. Effective cooling of CO2 before reaching the pneumatic pump will directly ensure the gas voids inside the pump, improving compression efficiency
Separation collector: an external conical cyclone separator ensures separation and collection efficiency
Integrated preheater: Preheating carbon dioxide before reaching the extraction kettle can shorten the heating time inside the kettle and avoid excessive by-products being extracted
Instrument control: The temperature inside the supercritical CO2 extractor kettle and preheating is controlled by a PID Fuzzy Logic controller. Pressure is controlled by a back pressure valve
