The reason for the error is that for volumetric flow meters, when the flow rate is small, the error is negative, but when the flow rate increases, it becomes positive and remains basically unchanged. This phenomenon is mainly caused by leakage in the gap between moving parts, which is obviously related to the gap, viscosity, front and rear pressure difference, as well as the time required to flow through a certain volume.
In order to reduce errors, the instrument has a lower limit for flow measurement, which means it should not operate at extremely low flow rates. However, if the flow rate of the flow instrument is too large, it will increase the speed of the moving parts and increase wear. Therefore, the upper limit of the allowed flow rate is often determined based on the allowable speed of wear. Therefore, the flow rate through a volumetric flowmeter is limited by upper and lower limits, and the range ratio is often selected between 5 and 10.
