Principle of automatic monitoring instrument for permanganate index: A known amount of KMnO ₄ and sulfuric acid are added to the sample, and heated at high temperature for a certain period of time. KMnO ₄ oxidizes certain organic and inorganic reducing properties in the sample. After the reaction, excess sodium oxalate is added to reduce the remaining KMnO ₄, and then excess sodium oxalate is dripped back with KMnO ₄ standard solution to calculate the permanganate index in the sample.
