Application and classification of harmful gas detection and alarm devices

a. The purpose of harmful gas detection and alarm device

Harmful gas detection alarm is a specialized safety and health detector used to detect the content of flammable or toxic gases and vapors in the air inside chemical workplaces or equipment, and to limit the alarm. In addition, the air oxygen deficiency detector also belongs to this type of instrument.

b. The detection of harmful gases in hazardous chemical sites mainly involves the following situations:

Leakage detection: Alarm for on-site leakage detection of harmful gases or liquids (vapors) in equipment pipelines, and leak detection during equipment pipeline operation.

Maintenance and testing: After equipment maintenance and replacement, residual harmful gases or liquids (vapors) should be detected, especially before hot work.

Emergency testing: In case of abnormal situations or accidents at the production site, harmful gases or liquids (vapors) should be tested for safety and hygiene.

Entry testing: When personnel enter the hazardous substance isolation operation room, enter the sewer ditch, cable trench or equipment in hazardous areas for operation, they must test for harmful gases or liquid vapors.

Patrol inspection: During safety and hygiene checks, harmful gases or liquid vapors should be detected.

Dangerous chemicals need to strengthen safety management, implement safety measures, and control potential safety hazards. However, it is impossible to achieve absolute peace, and there may still be situations where everything is lost. Therefore, the detection and alarm of accident hazards, as well as the detection and alarm of harmful gases or liquids (vapors) in hazardous chemical sites, are very necessary. It is of great significance to avoid and control accidents.

c. Classification of harmful gas detection and alarm devices

1. Classified by usage method

① Portable harmful gas detection and alarm device

The instrument integrates sensors, measurement circuits, displays, alarms, rechargeable batteries, and vacuum pumps into a single body, making it compact, lightweight, and easy to carry. It also features a pump suction sampling system, allowing for testing anytime and anywhere.

Pocket sized instruments are a type of portable instrument that typically use diffusion sampling without an air pump, are powered by dry batteries, and have a very small size.

② Fixed harmful gas detection and alarm device

This type of instrument is fixed on site, continuously and automatically detects corresponding harmful gases (vapors), automatically alarms for harmful gas limits, and some can also automatically control exhaust fans, etc. Fixed instruments are divided into two types: integrated and split.

Integrated fixed harmful gas detection and alarm device: Similar to portable instruments, the difference is that it is installed on site, powered by 220V AC, continuously and automatically detects and alarms, and mostly adopts diffusion sampling.

Split type fixed harmful gas detection alarm: The sensor and signal transmission circuit are assembled in an explosion-proof enclosure, commonly known as a probe, and installed on site (in hazardous areas); The second part includes data processing, secondary display, alarm control, and power supply, assembled into a controller, commonly known as a secondary instrument, installed in the control room (safe place). Probe diffusion sampling detection, secondary instrument display alarm.
