The founder of the company, Artie Defeo, worked at Allison dealerships from the 1970s to the early 1980s. The dealer he was working for encountered usability issues while purchasing parts from the Allison factory. This component is used to complete the Allison Transmission project for the local utility company. Several weeks have passed, but the part still cannot be obtained from Alison's factory. Artie couldn't wait any longer and started doing it herself. Using his background in mechanical processing, he created a replacement part that he could use to replace the parts that Allison factory could not provide. The component runs well and performs well, and the industry quickly reported that Artie has these replacement components available. Soon, other companies facing the same problem began calling Artie to obtain the component from Allison's factory. Artie's developed parts are not only in stock, but also much cheaper than the prices offered by Allison factories. A light bulb went out in Artie's head, and one part turned into two parts, which quickly turned into four parts, and so on. Unconsciously, a company was born.
In 1984, he conceived the idea of selling commonly used replacement parts for Allison transmissions and began Defeo Manufacturing. Defeo focuses on providing its customers with cost-effective alternative solutions to replace the most common components used in Allison transmissions. Defeo's parts are as suitable, shaped, and functional as the original, but with significant discounts. As the company grows, it begins to provide more parts and services for on road and off road Allison transmissions. The company not only offers new replacement parts, but also begins to provide other affordable solutions such as refurbished parts, good second-hand parts, or excess new parts. Over time, the company has developed rapidly and established relationships with various suppliers and manufacturers. These relationships enable Defeo to expand its product line to cover all parts of on road and off road Allison transmissions. Defeo has become a replacement part for Allison transmissions, selling gasket kits, seals, bushings, bearings, solenoids, hard parts, clutches, filters, bushings, sensors, accumulators, shifters, coolers, and other parts throughout the industry.
In 2015, Defeo launched a new series of performance components for the Allison 1000 series gearbox under the name Xcalliber. As the brand became increasingly popular, Defeo changed its DBA name to Xcalliber in 2020. Still owned by Defeo Manufacturing, Xcalliber parts and transmissions are now distributed in over 50 countries/regions across 7 continents.
