1. Product Description: Rotating Disc Electrode Price

RRDE-6ARotating disk electrodeIt is a high-precision electrode rotator used for electrochemical measurement of fluid dynamics controlled rotating ring disks. An electrode with an outer diameter of 12 mm installed on a shorter stainless steel shaft forms a miniature concentric circle electrode system, allowing for highly precise control and adjustment of rotational speed. The speed of RRDE-6A is electronically controlled by a proportional integral closed-loop circuit driven by a DC servo motor. The rotating working electrode used has a compact appearance and can be quickly exchanged. The device is also equipped with an adjustable valve system, which can use inert gas to blow and clean the electrolytic cell. When the electrochemical measurement starts, the airflow of the internal blowing gas pipe automatically switches to the protective gas pipe above the electrochemical cell, protecting the gas space above the solution to prevent the influence of external atmosphere on the inside of the electrochemical cell.
RRDE-6A can be manually operated and controlled separately, or remotely controlled for speed or purge gas through Shanghai Chenhua CHI7600 series electrochemical workstation, Donghua Analysis DH7001A single potentiostat/DH7003 dual potentiostat, or other electrochemical analysis instruments. In addition, the disassembly and exchange of the sample cup are simple, and the electrode exchange is very convenient.

1.1Rotating disk electrodeProduct Introduction
RRDE-6A is a stable electrode rotating device used for electrochemical measurement of fluid dynamic convection control rotating ring disks. It is installed on a 50mm long stainless steel shaft with an outer diameter of 12mm, providing a miniature concentric circle electrode system that can also rotate and adjust radial speed or waveform with high precision

RRDE-6A is electronically controlled by driving a DC synchronous motor through a proportional integral closed loop. The electrode is compact and can be quickly replaced. The device is also equipped with a regulating valve system for inert gas purging control of the electrochemical measurement cell

RRDE-6A can be operated as an independent device or remotely controlled through Shanghai Chenhua CHI7600 series electrochemical workstation, Donghua Analysis DH7001A single potentiostat/DH7003 dual potentiostat, or other electrochemical analysis instruments. When the electrochemical measurement begins, the airflow from the internal purge tube switches to the protective tube above the electrochemical cell, protecting the gas space above the solution to prevent external atmospheric influence on the measurement inside the electrochemical cell. In addition, the glass sample cup used is easy to rinse and clean. Replacing electrodes is also easy. The sample cup is easy to remove and exchange.

1.2.2 Installation Environment
1. Use a non tidal power supply. Other laboratory equipment such as ovens, vortex mixers, centrifuges, and large motors may cause power spike interference. 2. Ensure that all components of the system share the same grounding line.
Inserting all components into a multi socket distribution panel can easily generate grounding circuits and baseline noise when components are plugged into separate distribution panels.
3. Place RRDE-6A on a stable workbench without any vibration occurring
4. Choose a room that can maintain a stable temperature throughout the day. Avoid installing RRDE-6A near window ventilation ducts, ovens, and refrigerators. To achieve very accurate measurements, a double-layer glass sample cup is required.
5. RRDE-6A should be avoidedRenWhat a complex and crowded place. Especially when conducting high-sensitivity work, remote control and independent secluded places.
6. Avoid very dry and carpeted areas. Static electricity can affect the performance of instruments. If the generated static charge is the cause of peak interference, anti-static floor mats and workbench mats will be helpful in solving the problem.
7. Avoid areas with radio frequency interference. Buzzer type calling machines may cause signal interference issues.

Reminder
When the power supply of RRDE-6A is in the ON state, do not touch the motor shaft and stop its rotation. If the circuit board fuse inside the device is blown, the instrument will not work.

1.2.3 Rear panel control and remote connection:

Figure 2-1 Names of components in the back panel:

1. Remote control connection port
2. Power cord socket
3. Grounding terminal
4. Measure the intake connection port for blowing and sweeping the measuring pool
(Used for connecting to the external gas supply pipeline.) Note: The maximum intake pressure is 5 psi

Insert the embedded end of the power cord into the port located on the back panel of RRDE-6A. Before connecting, always ensure that the ON/OFF switch of the power supply is in the "OFF" position. This switch is marked with "O" and "I". When "O" is pressed, the power is "OFF", and when "I" is pushed, the power is "ON".

Remote control interface description:
1:IN,2:GND。 A pair of combination interfaces, with a voltage output of 0-9V from the remote control port of the combined instrument (CHI/ALS, etc.) connected to this interface. Each 1 volt corresponds to 1000RPM (1000rpm/1V). For example, if the remote control voltage is 3.6V, the rotation speed is 3600RPM/S. Remember: The remote control voltage should not exceed 10V.
3:OUT,4:GND。 A pair of combination interfaces, with TTL level output from the remote control port of the combined instrument (CHI/ALS, etc.) connected to this interface to control the start and stop of RRDE-6A rotation. High level (3.6-5V) starts rotation and low level stops rotation. The rotation speed is controlled by the voltage of pins 1 and 2. The remote control interface of RRDE-6A has connected pins 2, 4, 7, and 8 internally, but pin 4 can be left unconnected. When the combined instrument only has one set of output ports, as shown in the left figure above, connect pins 3 and 4 with a wire.
5:Purage。 It can be combined with all GND, and the remote control port of the combined instrument (CHI/ALS, etc.) outputs TTL level and connects it to this interface to control the start and stop of RRDE-6A deoxygenation gas. High level (3.6-5V) connects deoxygenation gas, and low level closes deoxygenation gas. When the combined instrument only has one set of output ports, as shown in the figure on the right, connect pins 4 and 5 with a wire.
6, 7, 8: GND.
If the level signal of the remote control interface of other combined instruments does not match RRDE-6A, please call or write to our company for free to adjust according to the requirements. )

1.2.4 Connection Method between RRDE-6A and Potentiometer

Three leads are needed to connect RRDE-6A to the potentiostat. Electrode rotation can be controlled by TTL level signals and automatically turned on or off. The remote control line is the connection line between the remote control port on the RRDE-6A back panel and the GND and RDE ports on the back panel of the potentiostat (refer to Figure 2-3)

In order to remotely control the blowing air, the blowing air control cable should be connected to the remote control port on the RRDE-6A back panel (refer to Figure 2-2;). When rotating the remote control electrode, the other end of the wire should be connected to the remote control port on the back of the potentiostat (refer to Figure 2-3).

1.2.5 Connection of electrolytic cell
The electrolytic cell is held in place by white fixing clips. Perform the initial placement of the battery according to the following instructions:
Cleaning pipelines
RRDE-6A has the ability to clean sample solutions with inert gas.

1. Place the battery on the fixed bracket.
2. Place the PTFE cover plate on the upper port of the electrolytic cell.
3. There are five holes on the PTFE cover, which are used to place the reference electrode, counter electrode, working electrode, and purge inlet pipe. Place these electrodes as required.

The joint between the ring electrode and the disk electrode is located below the motor shaft.

1.2.6 Gas inlet connection

Figure 2-5 RRDE-6A gas inlet connection

RRDE-6A comes with a 3mm outer diameter polyethylene pipe and gas pipeline joint. One end of the connector is inserted into the GAS interface end on the rear side of RRDE-6A. To connect the gas pipeline, simply connect the joint (see Figure 2-5).
The open end of the PTFE tube is connected to a stable gas supply source, and the inlet gas pressure must not exceed 5 psi.
To remove the connected trachea from RRDE-6A, simply turn the left interface cap and then unplug the connector along with the trachea from the gas interface terminal of RRDE-6A.

1.2.7 Blowing gas pipeline connection:
RRDE-6A has the ability to blow sample solutions with inert gas. Purging gas treatment usually involves introducing nitrogen or nitrogen into a solution and using a bubbling method to dissolve oxygen. The blowing gas pipeline consists of two small PTFE tubes in a PTFE cup cover. The one with a black label is for protecting the trachea, and the outlet of the trachea should be above the liquid level of the sample. The other one should be immersed in the sample solution. If necessary, the length of the protective trachea can be adjusted by moving the position of the black label.
Warning:
Before electrochemical testing, the purge control function on the panel should be used to thoroughly clean the sample solution
Blow and blow air bubble treatment.effectiveThe gas blowing treatment is completed by using the gas interface connected to the rear panel and ventilating for 15 minutes. To prevent the solution from being sprayed out or overflowing from the sample cup by the airflow, before opening the inlet valve of the total gas source for blowing, please turn the knob clockwise to the bottom. After opening the inlet valve, slowly turn the knob counterclockwise while observing the bubbling state of the gas in the sample solution. Stop rotating when the bubbling state is appropriate. If you want to quantitatively control the gas flow rate, you can install a gas flow meter (our product number: 6AP017) between the external gas source and the gas inlet of the RRDE-6A back plate. This not only controls the blowing time but also improves the efficiency of blowing gas treatment

1.2.8 Electrode Installation
Before disassembling and assembling the electrodes, the power supply of the RRDE-6A device should be turned off first, and all leads connecting the electrodes (reference electrode, counter electrode, ring/disk electrode) to the potential meter should be removed first. Then loosen the bright colored hand tightening screw on the white PTFE plate in a counterclockwise direction, move the motor and rotating shaft assembly upwards as a whole to position the rotating working electrode above the electrolytic cell cover, and tighten the bright colored hand tightening screw on the PTFE plate to fix it in place. Then rotate the rotating shaft assembly of the motor clockwise to a position of about 45 degrees. The working electrode is connected to the rotating shaft component by twisting. Carefully unscrew the electrode counterclockwise from the shaft to remove the working electrode.

3. Initial operation of the instrument:

After all connections on the front and back panels of the instrument are completed, please follow the steps below when using the electrochemical analyzer or potentiostat for the first time.
1. Press the power switch on the front panel to the OFF ("O") position
2. Loosen and remove the electrode.
3. Polish the electrode
4. Connect the working electrode to the motor shaft again. Apply some force to make it press against the bottom end face of the shaft.
5. Place the test solution into the measuring cup. The solution commonly used for testing is approximately 65mL of a 2mM potassium iron/1mL potassium iron solution
6. Press the power switch on the front to the ON ("I") position.
7. Insert the reference and counter electrodes into the two holes on the cover of the measuring cup, and connect the electrode leads. Start blowing the solution with inert gas according to the blowing gas operation steps. For the initial experiment, blowing treatment for 5-10 minutes is sufficient. Attention, please carefully adjust the gas pressure.
8. Release the position fixing knob of the motor component to lower the position of the motor and shaft, and immerse the working electrode into the solution. When the rotation control switch is placed in the 'LOCAL' position and the well rotates at 1000 rpm or higher, immerse it in the solution and remove the bubbles adsorbed on the electrode surface by centrifugal force.
9. Insert the purge tube into the electrolytic cell and blow inert gas into the solution.
When performing manual control operations, please place the rotary switch in the 'LOCAL' position. When remote control is required, please place the rotary switch in the 'REMOTE' position.
11. Under remote control, rotate the working electrode according to the software settings
After the experiment is completed, the position of the motor shaft assembly can be raised, and the working electrode can be rinsed or polished as needed.

Note:
The range of rotational speed for RRDE-6A is 30 to 9500 rpm
2. Please wait until the liquid display (LCD) of RRDE-6A shows stability before conducting electrochemical measurements
Due to the influence of room temperature, it sometimes takes several minutes for low-speed rotation to start and stabilize. Please allow sufficient preheating time for the RRDE-6A equipment,
4. Please use Shanghai Chenhua CHI7600 series electrochemical workstation, Donghua Analysis DH7001A single potentiostat/DH7003 dual potentiostat, or other potentiostat with voltage output control for remote control of speed or purging gas.
5. If there is a vortex around the electrode rotation axis during high-speed rotation, it may cause oxygen in the air to dissolve in the solution. In addition, high-speed rotation may also cause turbulence and noise signals in the data.
To extend the lifespan of the motor and carbon brush, please try to set the speed below 3000 rpm for use
7. Please make sure to use inert gas for blowing and bubbling treatment. Do not use explosive gases such as chlorine gas to avoid the danger of chlorine gas leakage, explosion, and fire
During the rotation process, sometimes the mechanical sound of the motor may become louder. If there is no noise deviation in the data, it can be considered that it has no impact on the measurement.

Typical measurement parameters
Working electrode: 4mm platinum disk electrode,
Reference electrode: Ag/AgCI.
Electrode: Platinum wire.
Sample solution: 2 mM potassium iron oxide/1 M KCI solution
Initial potential:+600 mV
Termination potential: -100 mV
Scanning speed (V): 10 mV/S
Rotation speed: 100-6000 rpm

4. Remote control operation:

External devices can be remotely controlled for rotation and blowing air through the RRDE-6A communication connection port. RRDE-6A has been designed with consideration for remote control through corresponding software such as potentiometers, Donghua Analysis DH7001A single potentiostat/DH7003 dual potentiostat, or Shanghai Chenhua CHI7600 series electrochemical workstations. Please confirm that the power is turned off when the instrument is not in use.
These remote control functions can be activated by a TTL level signal or by any controller that provides contact closure to the ground. All circuits are activated at low level (triggered by negative edge).

5. Instrument maintenance and electrode surface restoration:

1.5.1 General Maintenance
RRDE-6A is a very sturdy and durable instrument that can be used normally for many years with proper daily maintenance. The following are precautions for extending the service life of the instrument and general maintenance precautions. Do not touch the RRDE-6A shaft assembly when the power switch is turned on
1. Operate according to good laboratory practices.
2. Clean the instrument and its surroundings. If there is any leakage, especially salt solution, please remove it immediately.
3. Avoid placing the device in a corrosive gas environment.
4. To prevent any component or sub component from loosening, please avoid falling, oscillating, or other forms of mechanical abuse from a height
5. After use, clean the trachea (rinse and dry).
When disassembling or replacing the electrolytic cell cup, do not bend the counter electrode, repeated bending may cause the platinum wire to break

1.5.2 Electrode Polishing
1. Carefully remove the electrode as described above
The purpose of polishing is to remove the oxidation-reduction reaction products or physical adsorbents generated during the experimental process. The rate of electrode coating will depend on the following factors:
※ Analyte molecules
※ Concentration of analyte molecules
The composition of national fixed phase
※ External voltage
※ Usage frequency

After each experiment, the used electrodes need to be polished again. On the other hand, the advantages of using a rotating ring disk electrode RRDE and fluid dynamics control applications are not only the removal of redox products on the electrode surface, but also the ability to analyze samples with lower concentrations compared to voltammetry measurements without stirring (static) of the solution. There are significant differences in polishing requirements based on the usage of electrodes. When the reaction signal on the electrode gradually decreases, it is necessary to carry out reasonable polishing treatment. Electrodes can also adsorb pollutants on their surfaces by adsorbing substances from the surrounding environment, such as cigarette smoke, aerosols, and other airborne substances. The polishing process can remove the adsorbed and small amounts of electrochemically active substances on the electrode surface.
To restore the electrode surface, physical methods (polishing) can be used to remove contaminants from the electrode surface. According to the degree of pollution on the electrode surface, three different particle sizes of polishing agents can be used when the pollution is severe, and the polishing treatment can be carried out step by step from coarse to fine according to the particle size. Under normal circumstances, the electrode surface only requires a fine polishing step, which can basically remove the pollutants on the electrode surface and restore the electrode surface. Generally speaking, rare metal electrodes (such as gold, tungsten, platinum, etc.) can be polished with aluminum oxide or diamond for better results. To ensure good experimental results for electrode surface recovery, it is recommended to start polishing with diamond polishing agent. As for the chemically modified (gold/mercury) glassy carbon electrode, it needs to undergo two to three steps of abrasive polishing treatment to restore its original reflective mirror state.
After each polishing step is completed, the electrodes need to be polished
completeClean it before proceeding to the next step of polishing. If polishing is not carried outcompleteThe cleaning of the previous polishing process may interfere with the next step of fine polishing due to the presence of pollutants from the previous polishing process. When polishing, please be careful not to let the softer electrode material corrode below the surface of the electrode insulation material. To avoid corrosion, electrode polishing treatment must be performed on a very flat surface.

1.5.3 Precautions for polishing working electrodes:

1. It is very important to use our polishing kit (product number: 6A600) and follow the recommended steps for polishing. The 6A600 electrode polishing kit includes the polishing materials required for each polishing step.
2. The electrode should be polished on the polishing pad attached to the glass plate in the polishing kit. During the polishing process, it is necessary to keep the electrode surface parallel to the glass surface as much as possible. This is particularly important for RRDE and RDE working electrodes, as it is necessary to ensure that the insulation material around the electrode conductor does not experience uneven wear. The electrode must be polished carefully and very slowly to maintain a flat surface as much as possible. When the electrode rotates, any surface irregularities or tilts will have a significant impact on the measurement results.
3. Do not attempt to remove the soft electrode material from the insulation material of the electrode body. These treatments cannot restore the electrode surface.
4. The electrode should be dried at room temperature. Heating and drying may damage the electrode, as the thermal expansion coefficients of the electrode material and the surrounding insulation material are different.
