As an integral part of the instrumentation industry, after-sales service is not a new concept, and its growth is closely related to the development of the instrumentation industry. Especially in the current instrumentation industry, its high-tech and professional characteristics make people have a more urgent need for the development of modern after-sales service. As a result, the market structure and characteristics of the entire instrumentation service industry have rapidly changed, and people have begun to have new scrutiny and more attention to the status and importance of the instrumentation service industry.

In 2011, Industrial Siemens established the Customer Service Business Group and established the Product Lifecycle Services Division, Value added Services Division, and Cross Industry Project Division, deepening the focus of "customer service" from a previous task to an important business unit. In April 2012, Siemens Customer Service Group signed an energy service contract with Jinda Company. According to the contract, the customer service group will provide boiler retrofit services, optimize coal combustion, increase energy efficiency by up to 18%, and improve water condensation recovery.

Siemens' move undoubtedly gave direction to many industries, and since then, many companies have also played the "service card", striving to gain recognition from users in serving customers.

Since the introduction of automation in China in the 1970s, over the past forty years of development, more and more industries have begun to use large instruments and meters, and their popularization has been elevated to an important position in industrial development. However, the popularization of technology has gradually increased the usage rate of products, leading to saturation of some instrument products in the deep application of the industry.

After experiencing the rise and fall of the photovoltaic industry, from scarcity to excess production capacity, we have long been prepared for the instrumentation industry and are afraid to see the same situation as photovoltaics. In the future, when the application of instrumentation products is ubiquitous, selling products is no longer the focus of manufacturers' business development, but rather on providing various services after using the products.

In the use of instrumentation products, there is a concept of "full life cycle", which in layman's terms refers to the entire life cycle of a product from the beginning of its use until it is scrapped. The full lifecycle service is the responsibility of the manufacturer to maintain and repair the product from the moment it is sold to the customer, including the use and repair of the product, as well as technical training.

The services in the instrumentation industry are similar to those in the consumer industry, but the differences are obvious. The consumer industry only provides maintenance services for customers' products, and very few have full lifecycle services. The customer service in the instrumentation industry not only includes repair after product failure, but also includes maintenance and upkeep during daily use, as well as anticipating various production situations before failures occur to minimize losses.

Once upon a time, there was a certain gap between domestic brands and after-sales service. Domestic brands slightly outperform brands in terms of maintenance speed, replacement speed of spare parts, and maintenance costs. With the increasing importance of the Chinese market, the "localization" strategy of foreign brands continues to strengthen, especially after establishing factories in China, the time issue in maintenance naturally disappears. At the same time, foreign brand instrument manufacturers are bringing the concept of after-sales service and training fees into China, and their service capabilities in China have greatly improved, making service the next competitive point in the instrument industry. From product integration to technology integration and then to service integration, the development stages of the instrumentation industry are one after another. The competition in the service stage has already arrived, and it will inevitably become another weapon of competition in the instrumentation industry.
