Our company has delivered three sets of Oculus M750d dual frequency multi beam imaging sonar to a certain underwater inspection company, which are used to be mounted on ROV underwater robots for real-time detection of acoustic imaging. Unlike mechanical sonar, Oculus is a multi beam sonar without moving parts. It uses a series of receiving transducers to collect echoes from a single transmission pulse and combines the data into an image using a process called "beamforming". This can generate multiple images per second and output sonar images for real-time viewing like a camera.
The low-frequency mode has a horizontal field of view of 130 °, allowing sonar to see targets within the maximum range, but the resolution of targets is lower than the high-frequency mode - typically used to search for larger targets.
Compared with the "low frequency" mode, the horizontal viewing angle of the "high frequency" mode is reduced to 80 °, and the maximum detection range is reduced. High frequency mode provides high-definition images of close range targets, typically used for small target searches. The Oculus M750d multibeam sonar is used to address the shortcomings of underwater cameras that cannot be seen clearly in murky waters.
