instrumentb2bBasic working principle of infrared spectrophotometer
Basic working principle of infrared spectrophotometer:
By focusing infrared radiation at a certain frequency on the analyzed sample, if the vibration frequency of a certain group in the molecule is the same as that of the infrared radiation, resonance will occur. This group will absorb a certain frequency of infrared radiation. By recording the absorption of infrared radiation by the molecule with an instrument, a comprehensive spectrum reflecting the composition characteristics of the sample can be obtained, and the type and structure of the compound can be inferred. IR spectroscopy is mainly a qualitative technique, but with the emergence of proportional recording electronic devices, it can also perform quantitative analysis quickly and accurately.
Characteristics and main applications of infrared spectrophotometer:
The general infrared spectrum refers to the mid infrared spectrum between 2.5-50 microns (corresponding to wave numbers 4000-200 cm-1), which is the most commonly used spectral region for studying organic compounds. The characteristics of infrared spectroscopy are: fast, small sample size (a few micrograms to a few milligrams), strong characterization (various substances have their specific infrared spectra), ability to analyze samples in various states (gas, liquid, solid), and no damage to the samples. Infrared spectroscopy is an important research tool and testing method in chemistry, physics, geology, biology, medicine, textiles, environmental protection, and materials science, while far red spectroscopy is an important means of studying metal coordination compounds.
