A hydrogen sulfide poisoning accident occurred in a factory in Hebei, resulting in 6 people being poisoned and 4 deaths

On the morning of May 30th, a poisoning accident occurred at the sewage treatment plant of Ousai Leather Co., Ltd. in Xinji City, Hebei Province during the maintenance of the aeration tank motor, resulting in 6 people being poisoned and 4 deaths. After preliminary investigation, the cause of the accident was that during the maintenance process of the enterprise's sewage treatment plant, employees replaced the aeration tank motor without taking protective measures, resulting in hydrogen sulfide poisoning caused by the fermentation of accumulated sewage.

According to the government of Xinji City, Hebei Province, on the morning of May 29th, a poisoning accident occurred at the sewage treatment plant of Ousai Leather Co., Ltd. in Xinji City during the maintenance of the aeration tank motor, resulting in 6 people being poisoned. After being sent to the hospital for multiple rescues, 4 people have no vital signs and 1 person has been out of danger (treated at the Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University). The condition has stabilized, and 1 person's condition is relatively mild and is currently under observation at the * Hospital in Xinji City.

After the accident, the Hebei Provincial Party Committee, Provincial Government, and departments such as safety supervision, environmental protection, and health and planning attached great importance to it. The Secretary of the Xinji Municipal Party Committee, Di Yi, and the Mayor, Tian Yaoyun, organized relevant departments to launch emergency plans and established a working group led by the city leaders for comprehensive coordination, medical assistance, on-site control, stability maintenance, aftermath handling, and accident investigation, to quickly carry out the treatment and aftermath handling of the injured.

After the accident, the Xinji Municipal Government first treated the injured in the hospital. The deputy mayor in charge of health work led relevant personnel to accompany them 24 hours a day in the hospital, and coordinated relevant matters on site to provide full rescue to the injured. Secondly, for the four deceased employees, four working groups will be formed under the responsibility of the Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, specifically responsible for comforting and stabilizing their families, as well as providing compensation and assistance. The third is to strictly control the scene, with the deputy mayor in charge responsible for organizing safety supervision, environmental protection, and other departments to isolate and control the accident site, strengthen ventilation measures, and determine the warning range to avoid secondary disasters. *The department has implemented control over the legal entity of the enterprise and sealed off its financial accounts. The safety supervision department shall seal and keep the relevant qualification information of the enterprise for future reference. While conscientiously carrying out various work such as the treatment of the wounded, aftermath disposal, and accident investigation, the Xinji Municipal Party Committee and Government have drawn lessons from the problems and hidden dangers exposed in the accident, and effectively strengthened the implementation of various measures for safety production.

On May 29th and 30th, two emergency meetings on safety production work were held in the city, using a month to conduct a comprehensive investigation of safety production accident hazards in key industries such as leather making, silver powder, and hazardous chemicals. Special rectification will be carried out in key industries such as hazardous chemicals, leather making, silver powder, densely populated areas, road traffic, construction, and special equipment throughout the city, and all leather making enterprises will be shut down for rectification.
