Dew point: the critical temperature at which water vapor condenses in a gas
DewPoint is the temperature at which air cools to saturation with water vapor and begins to condense into liquid water at a constant pressure. When the air temperature drops to the dew point and the relative humidity reaches 100%, water vapor is released in the form of dew drops or mist. For example, if the air temperature is 20 ℃ and the dew point is 15 ℃, it needs to be cooled to 15 ℃ before condensation occurs. Dew point directly reflects the absolute humidity of the air, and the lower its value, the drier the air.
Working principle of gas moisture analyzer
Gas moisture analyzer quantifies gas humidity by detecting dew point or water vapor content. Common principles include:
Cold mirror dew point meter: The dew point is measured by cooling the mirror surface to the moment when dew droplets or ice crystals appear, and measuring the temperature of the mirror surface. This method has high accuracy, but is susceptible to mirror contamination and requires additional cleaning equipment, resulting in higher costs.
Capacitive sensor: using aluminum oxide gold-plated electrodes, the capacitance value is changed after water vapor adsorption, and the water vapor content is directly calculated (unit: ppm or mg/m ³). For example, the SHAW dew point meter in the UK achieves high-precision measurement through a probe, without the need for direct temperature measurement.
Electrolytic moisture meter: Gas flows through the electrolytic cell, and water vapor is absorbed by phosphorus pentoxide and electrolyzed into hydrogen and oxygen. Humidity is calculated by the proportional relationship between electrolysis current and water content. This method is suitable for measuring low moisture content, but requires regular replacement of the adsorbent.
Core value: The 'invisible guardian' of safety and quality in multiple fields
Industrial safety: In natural gas pipelines, trace amounts of moisture may cause inner wall corrosion; In the power system, excessive humidity of insulation gas can reduce insulation performance and cause short circuits. The moisture analyzer can monitor in real-time to avoid equipment damage.
Product quality: Excessive moisture in the welding protective gas can cause porosity in the weld seam; In the production of electronic chips, insufficient dryness of inert gases may cause oxidation. The instrument is strictly monitored to ensure that the product meets high standards.
Scientific rigor: Chemical reactions are sensitive to moisture, and trace amounts of moisture may alter the reaction pathway. The moisture analyzer provides accurate data to ensure reliable experimental results.
