Calibration and maintenance of Karl Fischer moisture analyzer: a key practice to ensure the accuracy of measurement results
Date: 2025-07-04Read: 0
As a high-precision moisture detection device, the calibration and maintenance of the Karl Fischer moisture analyzer are key to ensuring accurate and reliable measurement results, and run through the entire life cycle of the instrument.
Accurate calibration establishes the measurement benchmark
Before calibration, it is necessary to ensure that the instrument is in a stable state and that the environmental temperature and humidity meet the requirements. Select certified standard substances, such as standard solutions or solid samples with known moisture content. For volumetric instruments, first calibrate the burette, accurately draw a certain volume of standard solution with a pipette, record the displayed volume of the instrument, compare it with the actual volume, calculate the error and adjust it. Perform titration calibration again, titrate multiple times with standard substances, and take the average as the titration degree to ensure that subsequent measurements are based on accurate standards. The Coulomb method instrument focuses on calibrating the electrolytic cell by injecting a standard moisture sample to check whether the moisture content displayed by the instrument is consistent with the actual value. If the deviation exceeds the allowable range, the electrolytic cell constant needs to be recalibrated.
Daily maintenance to ensure stable operation
In daily use, it is necessary to keep the appearance of the instrument clean and regularly wipe it with a soft dry cloth to prevent dust and impurities from entering the interior. The titration cell is a core component that needs to be cleaned promptly after each use and rinsed with a suitable solvent to prevent residual reagents from affecting the next measurement. The maintenance of electrodes is crucial, and measuring electrodes and electrolysis electrodes should be regularly inspected. If there is dirt or damage, they should be cleaned or replaced in a timely manner. Reagent management should not be ignored. Karl Fischer reagents are prone to moisture absorption and deterioration, so they should be sealed and stored. Their expiration date and condition should be checked regularly, and unqualified reagents should be replaced in a timely manner.
Through strict calibration and meticulous maintenance, the measurement error of the Karl Fischer moisture analyzer can be effectively reduced, the stability and reliability of the instrument can be improved, and accurate data support can be provided for moisture detection in various industries.
